Olivia Miles to Transfer Portal - forgoes WNBA draft, too

7 years of college? How much more eligibility does she have?

I'm sure this thread will be shifted to wbb.... but thought folks would be interested.

I am a not a fan of Prince so maybe I’m biased, but if she actually comes back for an 8th (!!!) year I’m going to start throwing hands at the NCAA. Ridiculous.
Why does this bother people . She’s played 3 eligible years. Plus 1 year that didn’t count. Plus she was injured several times and had to sit out a year under the old transfer rules.

We talked about this on other board.

Obviously, could be Notre Dame intrique, always fun...

But also...Miles already has bs econ/biz and masters in non profit 5/25 from ND. Even with no ill will to ND, this move gives her a chance for another Masters at another school, and a chance to be a 1 yr hero in hoops, while WNBA collective bargaining sorts out.

She's a top student, so Stanford, USC, Vandy & Duke all realistic options. TCU and LSU options too.

My guess is she will go to USC and do exactly same masters in entrepreneurship that Iriafen did. (and earn a little pocket money too)

Incredible surprising, but at the same time very clever from O Miles.

I agree. After the way Prince played tonight I can't imagine her presence on next year's team would be a huge factor for Miles. Maybe she knows of other players who will join in.
This board is tough on someone like Prince, who can win you 36 games, but then wilts against the toughest bigs on TX or SC.

To a player like Miles, it's more like: awesome with Prince we can win 36 games! Now with me here, we can get together with Coach and scheme up a way to win those other 2 games.

Why TCU? Money, Dallas/Ft Worth, likable good coach, she just watched how they used 1 yr transfer Hailey Van Lith.

In WNBA she makes $80,000 plus what she earns from sponsors.

At TCU she will make her NIL transfer fee of $xxx, xxx, plus what she earns from sponsors, plus a 1 year masters program.

She can do this while she awaits new WNBA contract agreement.

A masters degree in "entrepreneurship" is quite the irony

Waiting for the new WNBA CBA while pursuing a college championship is the best option

It’s not just Prince, I hate it when any player in any sport just keeps playing past a 5th year. I’ve seen football players playing a 7-8th year and I find it equally annoying.

Exactly! If I'm not a fan of seeing 26-year-old men dominating 18-year-olds in college, why would I make excuses for a 26-year-old woman for doing the same?

It's time for Prince to move on and figure out what to do with the rest of her life.

Good morning all. After I pulled out the bottle of Irish Whiskey from between my hip and the TV room floor.....;).....I will admit to finding this out from an ESPN scroll. A few of you reached out to see what was up and -- as is my wont -- took some time to ponder and research (post-game presser and local press write-ups.) My take:

  • Liv admitted to being conflicted about staying in college vs. WNBA, as she explained in post-game comments. In retrospect, I should've honed in on the way she referred to "college" rather than Notre Dame.
  • Plus, she just turned an ankle in the NCAA tourney and her knee may be bothering her after a whole first season back. In short, her body can use a break rather than plunge into yet another intense season. And there is no Olympic break this summer for WNBA rookies.
  • As noted, she's leery of a lot of things in the WNBA, so perhaps the CBA negotiations can address some of these concerns before the '26 draft.
Meanwhile....
  • She's a Double Domer (undergraduate degree and masters from ND) and a bit tiring of the school scene. Plus -- this is important -- her best two friends on the team, Maddy Westbeld and Sonia Citron, are out of eligibility and won't be back. Miles and Westbeld live together.
  • NIL. It's rumored U$C paid Kiki Iriafen some $800,000 leave Stanford for the Trojans. Chavez went to Oklahoma for monies reported to be north of that.
  • So, Liv could be looking for an NIL deal, play somewhere new for a year while being rewarded financially and see what the redone CBA contract does for rookies....got to be better, less restrictive than it is now.

Yes, it would/will be shocking to see 'Liv anywhere else in college, but this is a whole new ballgame. Yikes.
Once again, I thank her for all the thrills she supplied to Irish fans, the effort she gave and wish my fellow ND alum the best going forward.

I think some of us also have complicated feelings toward Prince, given the abuse accusations against her by multiple former partners beginning in 2019. (As far as I know, at this point, they are only allegations, and she has not been found guilty of anything in court.)

i wonder if this means Prince is coming back?
I suspect this as well. TCU apparently has a boatload of money, OM wants to run the entire show as point, and will get a big payday.

BTW: To those writing ND's obituary: ND has deep pockets also, and an expensive NIL player has left, opening up NIL money for a player like a Booker type-a tall, fast forward- that ND desperately needs. This is a major challenge for Ivey. We'll see if she's up to the task.

This is bad news for Notre Dame....recruits look for good coaching and with all the talent they had, but were still beaten by non-ranking teams is a big tell.

In the postgame presser after the loss, Sonia Citron made a comment I thought was interesting, something along the line "we have so much talent on our team that sometimes we don't know what to do with them".

I have nothing against Ms. Prince, but I think it’s time for her to depart college, as a regular daytime student. I believe it’s time for her (and other 7-year student athletes) to become adults, leave the nest(s), and start paying for her/their own expenses. Because, in reality, how long shall we/must we, continue to “care for the kids?”

Yikes. Basically, this is the politest possible way for someone to confirm there was a chemistry issue.

Ivey truly seems like a very nice person. However she really lost control of this locker room situation. A lot of heat will be on her now.

Kinda makes one appreciate Geno’s emphasis on team culture in his recruiting. He’s swimming against the current to some extent in today’s recruiting culture, and it’s not surprising that not a lot of other coaches follow his lead in this. It’s not the quick path to success.

This conversation made me think of the Oklahoma game, I don’t wanna say it definitely, but the coach and the team seem like they had some chemistry issues. And it may show in the future. It’s crazy because I thought about how Geno does it literally while watching the game. The way some of the players interacted with each other I can see some viewing it as toxic, I wouldn’t see it that way, but I saw some questionable interactions between the players.

She basically let her sophomore guard do anything she wanted without reigning her in when it hurt the team.
