1..we need a great QB! That’s half the problem! One who can read quickly and run if needed.. and run fast aka pindell
2...we need to change up the plays.. way to many of Mensah trying to run through the middle.. I could see those plays before the snap.. same ol same ol.. we need to be more creative on offensive plays.. aka.. need a creative OC..if that’s giofre great but we need some creativity
4..we need a stronger DLine. The opposing team scored almost every time on our D.. bigger and stronger hopefully will help this year..
A lot of the schools we played looked to have poor pass blocking grades especially their tackles. Keeps pointing to our need for edge rushers.

DING DING DING DING DING. Defense can't apply pressure. Every Edelman like WR killed the defense (ECU game) and the secondary couldn't cover anyone.

Can’t wait to see rankings for QB, WR and RB because overall the O had to be about 75 slots down. Can u get a grade below 130?

If you go deeper in PFF's website they have a ranking of QBs as of Nov. 19, Z was #130.

Notice the rankings seemed to revolve around our OTs... Interior line play MUST be better to execute the show yardage plays...
Seems those are the guys moving on with eligibilty remaining.

I haven’t dug in to PFF stats but I know Nino Leone was rated the top graded interior lineman returning in the AAC prior to this season.

I am guessing blocking schemes and qb technique were a big part of the blame.
The move from guard to center caused some regression. I think he didn't fire off the same way due to stance difference and his play took a step back.

Could be. Boggles my mind how a staff could decide to move the highest graded returning AAC guard to center but why am I surprised.

Leone was a wrecking ball in the run game at guard.

My take is that he struggled at pass pro and was wildly inconsistent in general with some big whiffs. Let’s see where these kids land.

I’d rather have him than not, just saying we were a two win team and that is reflected in the talent.

Cam DeGeorge was the 5th highest graded OG returning and made their 2nd team All-AAC team for 2019.

If QB technique was part of it then WTF are we doing to fix it? We're not going back to war next season with what used to be our RB coach (was at that spot for a brief moment too)....

Lack of bodies to fill the position. Edsall gets so much flack, but he was literally left with so little to work with apparently.

He was the best returning interior lineman in the AAC. I would much rather have him and he was a huge loss. It is imperative for a guy that big to focus on feet at all times and when he whiffed in pass pro, he whiffed no question. But I have never seen a better run blocking guard for this team in the last ten years. He cleared parcels of space.

I am sure there was someone on the roster that would allow Nino to stay at guard

I guess.

Where he lands will say a lot and then if he plays where he lands.

Whoever is back there needs to stay discipline and focus on footwork and staying in the pocket. Footwork for QBs can be fixed. It’s repetition.

I am not as confident about decision making and throwing motion.

I guess I’m not understanding how a player who had an excellent grade (this is measured by people watching him play every snap not word of mouth or reputation) not be considered a huge loss for a team that was atrocious and can use all the competent players they can get. (Not saying you don’t think he is a big loss)

It’s nice the boys got some recognition...but hey PFF watches every player and every play, so...
That's accurate. And most NFL and College coaches are now deep into PFF analytics. If you heard Mike McCarthy at his Dallas Cowboy presser he mentioned looking at tons of game tapes and breakdowns on lots of players during his hiatus, all "courtesy of Cris Collinsworth's PFF". That speaks well of Ryan Van Demark's opportunity to make an even bigger impression this fall when everyone that matters in the NFL will know about it--courtesy of PFF.

Well for starters, could someone post the PFF grades on each UConn line man for 2018 and 2019? I don't have the actual grades, only that UConn as a collective scored well in 2019.

As for PFF - its a measuring stick but hardly perfected just yet. I know with my NY Giants the scores they come up with can be baffling.

From PFF
August 2019
2018 grades of returning lineman

Offensive Tackle

Jarrid Williams, Houston – 77.4
Josh Jones, Houston – 71.9
Marcus Norman, USF – 69.0
Matt Peart, UConn – 68.1
Donovan Jennings, USF – 64.6

The bookend tackles at Houston should present King with ample clean pockets for him to work from. Last season, they combined to allow only 23 combined pressures on a whopping 1,098 pass-blocking snaps.

Offensive Guard

Dustin Woodard, Memphis – 80.3
Jovahn Fair, Temple – 75.1
Dylan Parham, Memphis – 74.2
Nino Leone, UConn – 70.8
Cam DeGeorge, UConn – 69.2
