Gulp - 33 ranked OL of 130?!?! Gets PFF doesn't give much weight to 3rd and short where we seemed to struggle.

33. UCONN HUSKIES
Highest-graded player: OT Matt Peart – 90.0 (8th)
UConn may have struggled to get many wins this season, but their offensive line was not the culprit by any means. They got terrific play from one of the best in the AAC in Peart along with junior tackle Ryan Van Demark, who put forth a career-high grade. As a duo, UConn's tackles were the 15th-highest graded duo in college football this season.

I started at 130 figuring we would be close to that or from 100 up.. once I got to #75 I got really excited and couldn’t believe we clocked out at #33.. I hope our line stays somewhat functional this year.. hope those boys are ready to work ..

I forget who the person leading the charge was but many here thought the line was the problem. I think the pff grades offers some insight to what the problem was - and it’s not the O Line.

Now we lose at least 3, maybe 4, plus top subs.
You still have Van Demark and Haynes - 2 starters and have picked up 2 replacements in JUCO's and 1 who started the last few games in Niederowski. So no, we aren't losing maybe 4 and top subs.

Shows how little I know about football. All I remember is a zillion 3rd or 4th and 1's and 1st and goals where HCRE2.0's schemes could not get it done. Maybe having a handoff 7 yards deep against 8 in the box isn't the way to go in short yardage situations. And here I thought it was just poor execution by the OL. Maybe it was poor execution by HCRE2.0.

I'm pretty sure it's called a QB and defense.

interesting that we couldn’t sustain a run game.

Running RPO type handoffs with a QB who was not a run threat will do this. I thought we should have had Jack Zergiotis under center more. We had tight end depth issues. We had no real fullback that I know of. But play action passes may have been productive if we had changed out of mainly shotgun offense. Beaudry was a tough runner but not fast enough in RPO. Steven Krajewski never really had a good chance this year once he was injured early in the late season game. He was clearly our best runner at QB speed wise. That is on Edsall.

He's hard to have under center because his footwork is slow and needs work. Really wouldn't bother with zone read options with him because there is no reason to respect it. Maybe run it near the goal line like Cochran did that one time against Temple. Z was best when he took the snap and passed it in 2 seconds. When rushers made him move off the X he was a bit of a mess. He can improve though.

So demote. Still crappy enough.
You know how he got the job? I don't think he even interviewed....Dunn left for the Jets in February and Edsall stuck the OC tag on Giufre. That's why I was was asking if RE was going to try to fill the job with an experienced OC, or just leave Giufre in place.

It’s nice the boys got some recognition... but I am a little perplexed about this given we did struggle in short yardage... or so it seemed. And the pocket wasn’t often wasn’t very clean. But hey PFF watches every player and every play, so...

I’ll take #33! Finally we are not rated on something somewhere between 125-130!!

1..we need a great QB! That’s half the problem! One who can read quickly and run if needed.. and run fast aka pindell
2...we need to change up the plays.. way to many of Mensah trying to run through the middle.. I could see those plays before the snap.. same ol same ol.. we need to be more creative on offensive plays.. aka.. need a creative OC..if that’s giofre great but we need some creativity
4..we need a stronger DLine. The opposing team scored almost every time on our D.. bigger and stronger hopefully will help this year..

Notice the rankings seemed to revolve around our OTs... Interior line play MUST be better to execute the show yardage plays...
