This was on the "Low Budget" album, a great piece of work that I think was very unappreciated. It also had songs like this and Captain America which spoke to what was going on in the world at the time. The"(Wish I could fly like) Superman" song has one of my favorite Kinks lines: "I'd like to fly, but I can't even swim."
 
Geez, the Beach Boys did a lot of songs about cars. When I was little, my older siblings had the single of Surfin' USA, which had this as the B side. It's about a drag race between a Corvette and a V-8 Dart.

 
I heard this one on the radio (college station) in the late 80's and was never able to find it. Then it showed up on his 3-disc set Orphans. I couldn't believe mu luck when it came on.

 
What makes it time for music? I don't think it is. Don't I get a vote?

I'm a big Kathy Mattea fan, but I pretty much worship Gillian Welch. I'm a big fan of Dave Rawlings, too, but.....Gillian Welch.
 
Lyle Lovett's album 'Pontiac' has some great music on it, the actual song 'Pontiac', however, is pretty dark.
(Not that there's anything wrong with that...)
