Official Men's Hockey Recruiting Thread

Truth is, we may not know when any of the recruits are coming until mid summer. There will be a lot of movement over the next four months. I wouldn’t be surprised if we lose a player or two in the portal and if we add another Ivy grad transfer. Last year, we didn’t add Viking Gustafsson Nyberg and Filip Sitar until August 26 and August 28.
Agree, very good points.

For those two, though, both born the same year, both forwards, from the same part of Russia, Chelyabinsk and Magnitogorsk, I find the plan at this point in time interesting. I think too that UConn now has a reputation as a good place to develop Russian talent. So I would be surprised if at least one doesn't make it to Storrs.

I’ve cleaned up and updated the roster grid.

UConn is a little thin on juniors but looks currently to have no more roster space. Any thoughts on that? What would happen if they get some interest from someone in the portal who has had an outstanding first couple years but wants to move up to a stronger team? Do you have a sense for that? Redshirt a freshman to make space?

Another question, under the new rules, if a player on the roster gets injured early in the season, can they be redshirted and a currently resdshirted player be added to the roster in their place? A new world brings new questions.

They only have 2 goalies on the roster so they will be bringing in a third string goalie for next season

They only have 6 defensemen on the roster so they will be bringing in 2 or 3 defensemen for next season

Who was the freshman who tore his knee preseason last year? Red head. Hope he's back healthy and brings skill

Yes. Torn ACL last September. Technically, he’s a redshirt Freshman this coming season.
I would not expect him until the start of the second semester, then. Skating is really hard on the knees.

Still waiting for some portal yields. When does that window close? The women scored a major win, looking for the men to do the same.

The portal is open until May 13th, although players can commit to a school after then. If there’s a coaching change or a player has their aid reduced, they have a separate 30 day window. Also, a player that has graduated and still has eligibility can transfer at any time.

As a note: “Since the school opted into the House Settlement, the Huskies’ roster will be capped at 26 players. Blais is the 25th, so UConn needs to add just one more forward to fill out its squad for the upcoming season.”

Who says he is a the third string goalie? That is very premature. Pretty sure he isn't coming here to be the third string option. Let's see who comes out on top.
He's coming with the expecations to compete for the back up position. Hendrickson & Muzelik are competing for the starting job.
