Absolute best case (10-2 + bowl win) - defense is as good as any UConn defense has been, offense starts the season adequate and continues to improve game by game under TJW's tutelage, Bobby Puyol hits a game winner against Michigan but a few injuries just nick the dream season from becoming a reality at Cincy, and Louisville goes undefeated to win the AAC:
Towson - W
Maryland - W
Michigan - WTF W
@ Buffalo - W
USF - W
@ Cincinnati - L
@ UCF - W
Louisville - L
@ SMU - W
@ Temple - W
Rutgers - W
Memphis - W

Worst case (3-9)- defensive secondary takes too long to develop to the level where BWW et al were, d-line fails to get consistent pressure, continued o-line issues with blocking schemes mean no consistency in run game and Whitmer gets injured again, leading to a revolving door at QB with Cochran faltering, Boyle's redshirt is burned, and possibly Lagow or Taylor as well. The wheels come off completely halfway through the season PP is fired after losing big at Temple, TJW is promoted to HC:
Towson - W
Maryland - L
Michigan - L
@ Buffalo - W
USF - L
@ Cincinnati - L
@ UCF - L
Louisville - L
@ SMU - WTF L
@ Temple - L
Rutgers - L
Memphis - W

Absolute worst case (6-6) - rather than the clear-cut dark cloud of the above scenario that gives a slam-dunk case for PP's firing, this is a ho-hum version of mediocrity, marked by what-ifs and woulda-coulda-shouldas, coaching brainfarts, flagging attendance, but with a handful of signs of improvement at the end of the season, resulting in another year of Pasqualoni. TJ Weist takes a position coaching job in the NFL, leading to a long search for an OC for 2014 that nobody wants to take because of persistent rumors that PP and GDL wouldn't let him run his offense.

Towson - W
Maryland - L
Michigan - L
@ Buffalo - W
USF - W
@ Cincinnati - L
@ UCF - L
Louisville - L
@ SMU - W
@ Temple - slightly WTF L (we lose on a Danny O style safety or something equally dumb)
Rutgers - slightly WTF W (Rutgers returns the favor)
Memphis - W

jungle,
In scenarios 2 and 3 Pasqualoni is gone. But in no case is he gone before the end of the season. He will coach out the season under any scenario. I'd take #1 right now, though.

7-5 (4-4) - Compass Bowl or Beef o Brady's.

We all would take #1, I hope!!

There's still a buyout, but the difference for 2013 ($750k) vs 2014 ($600k) is only $150k which might be considered negligible / manageable for UConn in scenario 2 (though with future revenues cloudy... who knows). I suppose that small difference might make keeping PP less likely in scenario 3, but I could also see WM giving PP a chance at year 4 if there are semi-lame "signs of improvement" at the end of a 6-6 season. If we go 7-5, he's definitely bringing PP back, I would think.

Everybody sees us losing to Louisville. They lost 3 starters on the OL. Good QB and receivers. Inexperienced line and ? at RB. Defense should be solid but the bandwagon is a little premature.

Highly doubt we beat them twice in a row. They'll show up to the UConn game this year.

Agree with that and Bridgewater is very good, but I think just a bit over-hyped.

I said that a while ago. Plus I think they will have a target on them. No way they go unbeaten even in the league. I didn't even pick them to win the conference.

6-6 (3-5). USF and UCF could be wins and Maryland could be a loss. I just don't know about our offense. I'm very worried about the OL and RB play. I'm also worried about our DB play. I think the Michigan game could be one of the most important games in our program's history.

and Louisville couldn't have scheduled more cupcakes had they been owned by Hostess. The toughest game on their schedule is UConn!!

Just looked at it and WOW is that lightweight! Even the bye weeks are perfect. I don't think the bye after Towson helps us but theirs is golden. They prove nothing with that schedule.

I'm going 5-7.
I don't know what to expect from the offense. Defense should keep us in games but do we have the offense?

I was thinking the same thing, but there was way to much optimism on this thread to come back with a 5-7 low blow.

Towson- W, offense starts rough at first, but gets confident

Maryland - W, we trail fairly late in the 3rd quarter, but we blow it wide open in the 4th

Michigan - ***TossUp, I can see us giving Michigan a very hard time, they could squeak by us, or we could pull a win

@Buffalo - W, this better be the last time we play them

USF - ***,TossUp, another one of these can go either way, we need to really cheer loudly and be motivated, let's hope for some rough weather too :)

@Cincy - L, just too much for us

@ UCF - L, everyone is already calling for P's firing

Louisville ****TossUp, cheer loudly, play good, and be confident and we win like last year

@SMU - W, another one of these motivation games, where if we play good, we'll win

@Temple - W, duck* Temple :D

Rutgers - ****, The Rent needs to be so loud for this game and destroy Rutgers confidence, but we could lose if we play silly

Memphis - W, great way to finish the season with a sold out Rent as players are motivated and ready for a bowl game

Realistic chance: 6-6, and making a bowl since we beat Michigan and played good in a lot of games

Wish it could happen: 9-3 or 10-2, and pulling off a lot of upsets that have us receiving votes in each Top 25 poll

Most likely going to happen since P is not giving me any reassurance: 4-8 or 5-7

We're doomed!!!!!!!!!!!!

Losing at home to MD will be traumatic and the Michigan game a debacle, maybe 41-7. The team is unfocused and loses at Buffalo and everyone knows PP is going to be fired. a win vs a bad USF team in a "do it for PP" game but reality sets back in and they lose out before beating Memphis in front of about 10k at the Rent. This is pretty much apolyptical worse-case, but after the last two years I think its much more likely than the upside, which is maybe 6-6 or 7-5.

PP keeps his job if we make a bowl. he has done a good job recruiting and building. I think we have a very stong base right now to grow on.

The tough part is if Coach P stays, the recruiting is only going to get tougher in this weak sister conference. Not sure if a 4 star coach could attract the big talent. I think the Kids who signed on this past year did so before the bottom fell out. The promise of a great education is part of the equation. We have to win and make a bowl this year just to stay even.

Think LV of last year had a "year when things went right" type year that will be hard to duplicate unless they are better. Have pretty weak OOC schedule so could win 8 to 10 games. Last year had 5 net close wins.
Wins: NC by 5, FIC by 7, SMiss by 4, USF by 2, Cin by 3, Rut by 3.
Loses: UConn by 3.

7 close games, go 3 and 4 in those and have 7 wins regular season. Didn't see them as much better than UConn last year and don't see it this year either (mostly based on UConn improvements).

UConn had zero net close wins.
Wins: Maryland by 3, Buff by 7, Pitt by 7, LV by 3
Losses: NC by 3, West Mich by 6, Temp by 3, USF by 7.

8 close games, go 6 - 2 in close games and have 7 wins.

Lot of things go into winning/losing close games. Not saying teams that win close games hasn't proved they are "better" that year, just that it isn't like LV was steamroller good and UConn was "fodder" for most opponents.

I like our chances against anyone at home.

We beat Louisville in triple OT with Bridgewater not 100%. At times he was out of the game. And you could tell they weren't taking us seriously since the game against Rutgers was the following week. They were looking ahead and we made them pay for it.

Let's talk attendance, which is hard to do not knowing our record but whatever. I'll include my projected pre-game record.

Towson (0-0) 30, 158
Maryland (1-0) 38, 611
Michigan (2-0) 42,000
USF (3-1) 37,981
Louisville (4-3) 40,000
RU (6-4) 38,481 (Although their fans on our board expect them to bring their own 40k)
Memphis (7-4) 38,228

I think we get to a bowl, and win that bowl. I'm figuring between 6-7 wins in regular season. If the OL can pull together 8-9 is a possibility.

PP has played the Riverboat Gambler. With no real QB and a very young OL over the last 2 years he has put all the chips in on this team to win 9. Losses LVL, UCF, Cincy. He knows 7 wins and he is gone. 8 wins and a win over LVL or MI at home and he stays. Lose both and 8 wins - gone.

We actually should be able to bring a decent amount to the UConn game. Thanksgiving weekend on a Saturday right? Real easy to make travel plans.

Hell I'll already be in Bristol for Thanksgiving anyways.
