How athletic is Nik compared to AK ?

Just wondering if Nik catch lobs on a break ? We still seem to be missing this.
He doesn't seen very athletic to me. A more cerebral player like Laettner.

This is the first I’m hearing of this guy, has he been spotted on campus by anyone or are there any grainy photos available of him eating a meal?

.-.
Hurley and staff killing it so far, bringing players back, and filling in the roster with the best players, that are signing on because they want to be here, not just a paycheck.

I get why people on the board like this guy but I really think we need to get more athletic at the 4. It was a huge liability last year and was a key determinant of our losses to Arizona, St John’s, and Michigan.
Much bigger determinant in our Arizona loss was Reed being out.

St. John's games the much bigger determinant was 21 combined turnovers from our guards in the 2 games. The game against the Johnnies we won, our guards had 1 turnover.

Michigan was just better, but Morez Johnson wasn't really the one that killed us. Both he and Karaban both had double-doubles.

Killing it? lol- I think only three players have committed so far- Demary Jr., Ross, & Hines.

With that said, in a day or two I can see that conclusion- but so far? Lol.

Reed being out versus Arizona is a convenient excuse. We had no one to check Peat and Awaka even with Reed playing.

I concede the point on the turnovers versus St John’s but the lack of athleticism and size at the 4 very much hurt in checking Harper, Hopkins, and Prey.

The fact that Karaban also had a double double doesn’t negate the fact that Johnson also had one. His size and athleticism was a match up problem all game.

Look, I'll take "more athletic" at the 4 if they also can bring the shooting, playmaking, on-floor coaching, heart, drive, will, and determination that Alex gave us.

But in no was was it a "huge liability". We need to relax on that narrative.

No Reed was the reason for our close loss to AZ. We played STJ close in 1st meeting, smoked them in the 2nd meeting, they smoked us in the 3rd meeting.

We could have beat Michigan (even though they had better athletes) with a little better 3pt shooting and a better whistle.

Duke, Illinois had better athletes than us, we beat Illinois comfortably x2, beat Duke.

Florida, Texas, and BYU also likely were more athletic at the 4. I think we beat them, too.

But the lack of athleticism at the 4 didn't factor when we played St Johns in Hartford?

I would also cite this as a small concern. Counter is we gave teams a lot of issues having to chase our 4s around, and if we shot to how we should have shot on paper we could have beat Michigan. With that being said, wouldn’t mind some size to counter the bigger frontcourts. But gets greedy wanting to have the best of both worlds.

Didn’t see this post, agree with this completely. Give and take, pros and cons.

That's what I'm talking about

Agree with all of this except for Illinois being more athletic than us. They were taller than us, tallest team in the country but they weren't more athletic than us. Tarris is more athletic and physical than everyone on the team by a significant margin. We handled them easily both games. Even their best talent Wagler is much more skill/savvy over athleticism.

I'm someone who wanted more dunks/athleticism/physicality all season but in the end it didn't hurt us. Michigan was an anomaly this season starting the giant Mara and two 6'9 guys and while they no doubt impacted our finishing around the rim greatly we still outrebounded them by a lot and with a fair whistle and or a couple of open threes going down we win the national championship as you pointed out.

The St. John's losses were more about us not handling their pressure and St. John's taking advantage of Big East refs. It rattled us to the point we were turning it over on out of bounds plays and even turning it over when we weren't pressured. We also absolutely destroyed them in one of our games.

Hines and Landrew should raise our physicality even though we lose Tarris. We also have to wait and see what everything looks like once the roster is completed.

This thread already ran off the rails. Can we have a thread dedicated to just Nik Khamenia updates

Illinois didn't and that is the one big advantage we had on them. Illinois was a very unathletic but big team.

I asked if we could have a thread about just Nik Khamenia updates and it was deleted. I suppose we can't. Carry on.
When you see the "Khamenia commits" thread that will be an update on whether Khamenia committed or not.

"Boneyard Dump
Is leaving Duke"

Color me confused

The posts moved had nothing to do with Nik. I created a new thread with those replies that people wanted to continue that discussion.
