O.T. Lady Gaga Does THE BEST National Anthem...

You must be a Red Sox fan because personally I don't see the problem. "A freckle on her forearm"? Is that the best you can share?
I've made no secret about being a Red Sox fan. My point was, one has nothing to do with the other.
I also find it amusing that one can draw conclusions about another's private character, when that person projects a public venire such as, "Lady Gaga."

I much rather get back to the freckles thing. A person's private image vs. public character is much too weighty for me.

This really stunned me the first time I heard it, and I knew she has a good voice.

I have (at least) two completely irrational dislikes: Julie Andrews and those who have to fake an English accent. Much as I admire Lady Gaga, this checked off both boxes.

Lady Gaga was good. Whitney Huston was great. Jennifer Hudson was (twice) special vocally and highly underrated once singing with Sandy Hook kids in the background 2013.

I'll never forget the first time she starts to sing in Dreamgirls. It blew me back in my seat. I was completely overwhelmed by her voice.

I don't like Gaga before.
But after Super Bowl 50 and Grammy I just love her and think her voice is super good.
It seems that ever since she teamed with Tony Bennett, she has changed.

After listening to so many "stars" brutally destroy our song, it was an unexpected delight to listen to Lady Gaga knock it out of the park. She was just fantastic. I still have the goose bumps. Gaga's beautiful rendition begins at 2:05.

Hated her version . . . she sang it much too slowly and took too many liberties . . . just awful!

Matter of taste, I guess. I think it sucked, big time. Prolly a minority view.
Your view was shared by high school principal who pulled the needle off of it about 30 seconds in with that classic needle to vinyl ripppppp...

I like how Gaga is reinventing herself. It is smart in my opinion. I liked her version but Whitney's is still the gold standard.

Yeah. Lady Gaga sang really well. My favorite is still Marvin Gaye's 1983 NBA All-Star game National Anthem. Classic!! Jimi's was nice as well. There have been some really powerful National Anthem's sung and some really horrible ones. Lady Gaga ranks up there with the really powerful and great National Anthems ever sung.

and I guess Jose started the whole "personal interpretation" at sports events. I personally find it quite beautiful and touching.

Jimi's was nice as well.
Jimi was such an incredibly complex figure, so proud of being a U.S. Vet and at the same time so opposed to the Vietnam War. His "Watchtower" is a masterpiece of ambiguity.

I hate, loath and despise all versions of the SSB that include tremolos, trills, glissandos, or ANY of that crapola. I consider them out of place, disrespectful and gauche. Most pop-type singers simply cannot resist hamming it up. Aarrgghhh!
Hopefully, you'll like this version, pure and simple:

I love, love, love Linda (and feel so horrible about her present circumstances), but she doesn't know the words (if I heard her correctly) and is not in good voice here. It's such a difficult song to sing "straight"--basically a woman has to be pretty much a soprano and she's anything but; that's why so many pop singers rearrange it: to cover vocal limitations. Still, thanks for posting; anything by Linda's worth it!

For the newest Lady Gaga fans (or anyone still unsure of her talents...)

You should Google Stephanie Germanotta...Gaga's real name and identity before she got all...GAGAed...

Of special note is her Juilliard performance...there is no doubt that after watching you will completely change your view of Lady Gaga. Shes all over you tube. She plays the piano better than Elton. AND she writes and produces most of her music (which has been refreshing since every pop star since Britney Spears ceases to be original)

People either don't know or forget that the melody for the SSB derives from an olde English drinking song, "To Anacreon in Heaven." Try that title as line one (instead of "Oh say, can you see?"), then envision a robust CLINK of beer steins. (Very unlike any SSB versions cited here.):)

He particularly liked the anthem because of the opening lyrics: "Jose can you see ...." ;)

Not her best, but it's always good to see Linda.

Was written by Bob Dylan, though (hence the ambiguity ;) )

"There are only two things I can't stand in this world; people who are intolerant of other people's cultures, and the Dutch." (Austin Powers' father, regarding Goldmember)

Lady Gaga has been showing she's the top talent in music today all year. Between her duets with Tony, her tributes to Frank Sinatra, Bowie, and The Sound of Music (which was just incredible), and the star spangled banner..she's back on top.

But I thought Demi Lovato sang the best National Anthem I have ever heard in the MLB finals. (She's on top of her game right now too.) Live and acapella.
