It is too late for Ohio State and Alabama to heed such wisdom.

But not too late for the rest of college sports.

A good place to start would be on the Connecticut campus, home to vaunted men’s and women’s basketball teams. Both have already been battered by the virus. Yet both carry on, eyes fixed on title dreams and fiscal windfalls, ears closed to the message sent by college football’s real national champion.

On the football forum I lauded Edsall and how he handled the situation.

However you can’t compare a football team with no conference to a basketball team with a well-run conference.

The basketball team is a 1/10 of the size and they have the leadership of a great commissioner like Val to handle the work the AD doesn’t need to.

Hogwash. If the conference is so good and all how come so many games have been cancelled. And the schedule is such a mess?

Quite frankly I think Val and the Big East leadership has actually been pretty bad at managing this but I get your point

I'm confused. You think you measure how good a conference is by how many games have been cancelled by coronavirus? That's Val Ackerman's job? Not to best design how the conference may get through a season and let the chancellors and governor's decide if the risks are worth the reward? That's a really interesting take.

Incredibly stupid, yes, but really interesting.

Well said. One of, if not THE, worst “news organizations” on the planet. Not one thing they print isn’t politically backed or motivated. I wouldn’t read that rag if you paid me every day to do so.

(And, yeah, NYT has flaws, contradictions, impurities, inconsistencies, and such that can be cause for disagreement, dismay, or outrage, but don't add up to what you've written.)

The author is not going to be happy when Indianapolis hosts all 64 teams and they allow some or any fans into the events.

some of the writers seem to not understand how much dedication being a college athlete takes and how painful it is if that is ripped away from you. So many kids in high school with dreams to play their sport in college or whatever the next level is have already gotten their dreams shattered, depending on where they live and what sport they play...missing an entire year or most of it in stops and starts doesn’t make you better. It makes you worse can permanently stunt development and prevents kids from reaching goals they live for.

Hey NYT, bubbles, quarantines and Covid protocols work. We had an NBA Champion and a WNBA Champion and are about to have an NFL Champion and NCAA Basketball Champions for men and woman. It isn't easy but you see America likes a challenge and knows how to overcome adversity. We're not woke. We will manage and learn from how we managed. So erudite and sanctimonious the NYT condemns yet still "presses" on with their ideological folly with all the drivel that's "fit" to print.

LOL. so it’s a mess. You can bet if fox wasn’t overpaying the season would have been cancelled already. And before anybody gets all weepy about players wanting to play (looking at you chief), just be man or woman enough to admit that none of this is about letting kids play. It is 100% about coaches and athletic departments and conference commissioners getting paid. Nothing else. If the Fox money went away at midnight the season would end Tuesday. If the CBS money for the tournament went away Friday it would be cancelled Saturday. Not one person in the Big East office gives a single snow about the players. Just keep the money rolling in. And btw, Val Ackerman is not even on the same planet as the real conference commissioners. As the Swiffords and Delanys and retire and get replaced by bean counters she might be fine but she has limited strategic vision and it will show over the next 5 years.
