Nowell in the transfer portal

I was talking about Adams who looks very skinny at 180 I think. Season opens in six months so not too much can happen between now and then but any hopes of playing will require more muscle for sure.
I’m ok with “wiry”, as long as they’re strong.

Prior to 2023, we won all of our championships with small lead guards. Heck, el Amin was 5-10!
The problem is Hurley’s “switchable” requirement on his High Hedge defense. This year, despite not having the personal to play it, he stubbornly continued it. So realistically we have the need for at least 2 of our top 3 guards being big guards, but preferably all 3.

Chief; we all know what you think of the high hedge

For the first time, I actually saw the high hedge work well during a couple of late season games. Still didn't think Tarris should do it, but it worked well with Sam more than a few times.

Did you become a fan after Isaiah Whaley graduated?

I generally thought Samson played it worse, despite his aggressiveness doing so. He overplays a guy like the basket is at halfcourt and the cost/benefit of being aggressive in this case is a huge negative. Plenty of open 3’s, fouls and guys caught in between.

Both had issues recovering to their man. Samson got outmuscled which sometimes lead to bad positioning on entry passes, or rebounds. Tarris just lost track of the ball recovering to his man and ended up being lead blocker more times than I would have liked.

The hedge is a great weapon.

I saw Samson improve greatly over the years on the high hedge. With length, speed and athleticism he is a prototype hedger.

Still, it takes a village. Guys on the back have to find their own man, creepers and keep their eye in where the hedger is and what he’s doing.

Many of our failed hedges were the fault of back end guys, especially the unseasoned McNeeley this season.

VCU just got a commitment from Nyk Lewis (from DC and Gonzaga College High School), a four star 2025 pg recruit, who opted out of Xavier after the coaching change. I appreciate a player who doesn’t want to play for a Pitino :)

Agree 100% on everything you said

This past season we did not have the “switchable” personnel to execute it. Additionally, we turned some terrible 3 point % teams into good ones.
