Well, the staff build was amazingly quick. HCJC came prepared it seems.

How do you suppose they are doing the portal? Face to face in a war room, breakfast lunch and dinner delivered, 16 hour days, spouses handling the relo with the UConn relo people and outsourced services? Or perhaps extended ZOOM calls? I like large ultra-wide color coded spredsheets tacked to the wall better than online document sharing. All hands on deck processing all that data. Perhaps a volunteer sweatshop isolated nearby constructing the what-ifs? A liaison function point contact with donors?

I can just imagine the intensity.

The volume of players and data to be sifted through is ridiculous.

With this being a full restart trying to be able to field a competitive team in year one is quite a task. We have no idea how many UConn players can be convinced to stay. Hearing players go on visits during this 2 week window there is so much to juggle. We have coaches with young children to worry about as well. I would expect some may not relocate their kids during the school year but wait till summer. It's a huge commitment this new staff is making to this program.

A spreadsheet printed with that many players would be so hard to read.

I hope to god they are computer savvy. It is the 21st century after all
Handwritten index cards. Just put the names of everyone in the portal on index cards and then make yes, no, or maybe piles for every position.

Well you separate it into position rooms and use a drafting printer for each room. Harder to use a completely digital approach even with big screens.

There wld be 4,000 cards. That wld take days just to get started.

Everyone can see everything the same on their own computer/iPad and when you need to change a color for a player you aren't printing a 6 foot wide piece of paper that is wasteful AND expensive.

Tabs for positions even.

Right click for the win

As every player entering the portal has to file paperwork through the NCAA, I believe that it is pretty safe to sasy that the NCAA has a complete database of all portal players and that all football programs can access this database fir their own use.

Logically each program will begin with players thsat they have some knowlege of (current members of the staff coached or coached against, may have tried to recruit out of HS or in a prior portal), then expand from there as needed.

I imagine that in many cases representation of individual players will reach out to staff members of schools the players may have interst in or view as a good fit to initiate contact.

Yes, the volume appears to be beyond manageable, but that will primarily hurt the players on trhe back end. Better players will find a home (although it may not be their preferred destination), those in the middle will see a mixed bag of results.

Will changing colors be a thing in the process? At 4,000 players divided into position groupings, tough to see on a computer screen. But you know, there must be some purpose built software commercially available for this already, so I concede your point.

One thing that did occur to me is that speed is of the essence. All the position groups have to be done in parallel.

Requires AI, I would leverage it due to the volume of data and if UConn asks I’m happy to help. Anyone want to create a startup? Just get us the data and think Moneyball.
I’m in, sounds like a blast. Where do I send my resume?

I think we would be a year late. What I would like to know is what software is out there now, how many teams use each product (market share), what shortcomings are in the current products, and could we pull off a market discriminator. In other words, could a viable business case be made?

They are making decent money. They’ll be here. Otherwise they can coach at Tiffin University

guessing its more just data scrubbing and data analysis and not so much AI, no? Data queries for certain positions and whatever attributes they're looking for... height, weight, star rating, location ... then start watching film when it's narrowed down.
