1. I wrote a much longer, more detailed take on this game. Then somehow managed to delete it before saving it. Poof. So this morning, I turned on the replay and redid it. But Shorter. A lot shorter.
2. I enjoyed what at first seemed to be a relutance on the part of the refs to use their whistles. But as the game wore on, it became very obvious that they were much more reluctant to call a foul on a Nova player than a UConn player, until that last 6 minutes or so when Nova started purposely fouling and the refs had to call them for Nova's benefit. By games end, I felt like it was the worst officiated game I've seen this season.
3. Shooting percentages - Our guys 55/32/85 -- Them other guys 41/25/64.
4. Boards, dimes, TOs, Steals Blocks... Us 17,19,14,3,8. Them 24,12,10,8,4.
5. Nine Huskies played, and all scored. Might have been the blueprint for a balanced scoring attack. No starter scored under 9 or over 12. Bench scored 22 points, led by Reibe's 8.
6. Was it my imagination, or was Nova the "hands-iest" team we've faced all year? Our guys have consistently been called all season for laying a hand on the ball handler. Last night, Nova kept swatting at our guys hands on the perimeter, as soon as we got to the front court. Were they doing that in the OT game back in January? I don't recall it being blatant enough to look like it was a part of the gameplan then.
7. I was shocked that Tarris only had 11 points (on 5 for 5 shooting) & 6 boards. Seemed like he was way busier than that. He also had 3 dimes, a steal and 3 blocks.
8. I was also shocked that our starting point guard had more turnovers (7) than assists (6). At least Smith had no TOs in his 12 minutes.
9. I didn't like the lead shrinking from 21 to as low as 8 in the last 8 or 9 minutes. But the final 10 point lead was enough for the guys to head home satisfied with a win.
