Figured this was worth making one thread for rather than starting a bunch of new ones..

The AAC has done pretty well so far in the non-conference slate. Today especially was a big day for the middle/bottom of the league:

Temple beat Auburn by 14 today after an 11 point win over Old Dominion yesterday

Tulane is currently up 21 points on Colorado State and is on their way to 3-0

Houston is up 7 on Drexel at half

Cincinnati has looked remarkable so far, winning by 40 again last night over an overmatched Coppin State team

ECU plays Central Connecticut tonight and is probably the only true dumpster fire left other than USF, who everyone knew would be atrocious this year

Tulsa bounced back from an opening game loss to Lamar with 2 wins, including a win over MAC favorite Western Michigan yesterday. Big game for them tonight vs Iowa State

Wichita State has come out hot with two blowout wins. They play Cal Monday in their next game.

UCF survived against Gardner Webb- I need to see more from them before announcing them as a for sure top 4 team in the AAC this season

SMU has rounded into form already and is blowing out bad teams at home

And finally Memphis. The Tigers lost to Alabama the first game of the year but its actually a pretty talented Tide basketball team. Memphis came back to beat UALR last game. Not sure what to make of the Tigers at this point. They host a bunch of garbage the next few weeks and we probably won't know about them until they play Louisville December 16.

Who has impressed you most? Surprise team has to be Tulane for me- even if they haven't really beaten anyone of note its good to see them winning games against teams we need them to beat. Up 23 at half against Colorado State is pretty impressive IMO.

UCF is without BJ Taylor for the next 4-6 weeks...could be a make or break it time for them. They need to find a way to win games they're supposed to win during that stretch.

Yikes, and thats with Gray scoring 37 points.

Guess Tacko is playing the point

He's been hurt too, unfortunately.

Also, wow @ Houston. They schedule exclusively bad teams, and then they can't even beat them.
I think we thought that last year...

That's a neutral site Paradise Jam game they lost. Yes, Drexel is bad and they should have won it, but not really an intentionally scheduled home cupcake situation either.

Let's pray that going forward, like the ladies, its a conference of ONE, but we badly need to play UConn BB.

Got bad for ECU. Nehls buried huge threes and Central won pretty easy.

CCSU just beat them by 11 and outrebounded them by 10. Keep an eye on Central's Tyler Kohl. He was the best player on the court tonight. Kid is legit.

How did he end up at CCSU? Was recruited by other Major MM Conference Schools.

Overall a wash for the AAC today except bad news for the teams that lost to poor RPI schools. Better hope they win some games.

Kohl was great. Was very good against Hartford too.

He has some issues. Got thrown off a Juco team. His brother is on the staff. He was recruiting Donyell Jr at some DII and got to know Donyell Sr.

Funny you should ask. The kid is a bit of a mystery. He went to 2 or 3 different high schools. As a senior in HS he was offered by many high-level programs including most of the A-10. Then he apparently got into some trouble and the offers went away. So he went to a Junior college but never made it past his freshman. Transferred to another school but only played 1/2 the season. His brother, Anthony Ross, is one of Donyell's assistants. Central took a chance on the kid and so far he has far exceeded anything we (CCSU fans) thought he'd be. He is a legit high-major player. He can do it all. This Central team is built to win NEXT year, BUT I'm convinced they can win the NEC this year if things break their way.

Good luck the rest of the season. I think all UConn fans are pulling hard for Donyell. Nice post!

Temple looking legit with wins against Clemson & Auburn. Cincy averaging over 100 pts per game albeit against cupcakes. Tulane off to 4-0 start even looks improved.

AAC has 6 teams that will be in the mix for the Tourney all year .....WSU, Cincy, SMU, UConn, Temple & UCF.

Not sure about UCF given their injury situation.

But otherwise this is looking to be a strong year for the top half of the conference.

UCF just needs to hold serve until Taylor gets back. I fear that they are going to suck in the OOC and do well in conference once Taylor gets back, which only hurts the perception of the American.

Yeah, for sure. That will be especially problematic because we already know for a fact that Houston is going to do the exact same thing.
