Honest question ... why does UConn have such a hard time building a large endowment etc. Do we have less successful grads?
It’s because New England is full of great colleges, and UConn has never tried very hard to increase the endowment. In recent years, they’ve been pushing harder and getting more donations, but that’s not the way it was during the 50s 60s 70s 80s 90s and early 2000s.

Besides the late start, the biggest issue with the the endowment relative to other schools is compounding of principal over decades. If you return 7% per year, your money will double in a decade.

Basically up until Herbst, it was never emphasized (with an over reliance on state funding) so we fell woefully behind, making it that much more difficult to catch up. That said, UConn needs to work the heavy hitters in Fairfield County and continue to increase the percentage of alums who give a small amount monthly.

And until the rise of UConn driven by the basketball program in the 1990's, UConn was an afterthought academically, financially, etc, to the a large majroity of the private schools spread across New England and New York.

surprised that the PAC 4 would be willing to make x-country trips to USF. memphis makes more sense imo. better at football and bball and half the distance.

smu/rice/tulane/memphis is a nice pod, with the PAC 4 being another. the last pod should be the 4 most attractive MW schools: SDSU, Boise, CSU, UNLV?
they despite having the high end education don't really think smart, tulsa has a better chance than boise or memphis simply cause of academics, which is insanely stupid and limits them severely

If true Memphis fans will be apoplectic falling behind Rice, Tulane and USF.
Tulane problem is they simply didn’t view sport’s as important to an educational institution. Memphis problem is they don’t view academics as important to an educational institution . The thing with a school like Tulane they can get back in the game with a smart investment In sports , with Memphis the hill is a lot steeper .

Why would they invite Stanford. They’ll be conference champs in every sport. Two more losses for BC and Syracuse
Not sure what's real or trolling here anymore, the California schools are horrible in the two sports that matter.

Nothing can happen unless ESPN writes a check for the schools. Yet we are left in the hinterlands.

Half the ACC teams will never win a football or basketball ACC conference championship. Now you add Stanford those ACC schools won’t win an ACC championship in any sport. Stanford wins the Directors’ cup every year. They have 132 national championships.

It is not exactly a tough sell to recruit Olympic athletes to Stanford.

- You are going to Palo Alto, one of the morr expensive neighbourhoods with average home price of $3.3M, for 4 years.

- beautiful CA weather for 4 years.

- You are getting a scholarship from one of the top 3 universities in the USA.

it's not exactly that hard to recruit top athletes here, which is why Stanford wins the Director cup every year. Over 20% of Olympic athletes came from CA for the USA. Stanford, and in some ways Cal as well, have these built-in advantages few schools have.

Yet what they cannot deliver is eyeballs for viewing. Apparently, with the exception of 2 schools in SoCal, no school can.

Way too many pro sports options in the Bay Area. In addition, most people go out and do stuff on weekends due to gorgeous weather vs. sitting at a football game. I am literally out every weekend playing tennis or Pickleball for example.

Most Stanford and Cal graduates are casual fans at best. Most have no idea PAC-12 blew up.
