I’m fine with the schedule. Playing the cupcakes allows our young guys to get game experience.
I like the high level teams on the schedule, but would rather see them play cake-eater teams (i.e. good Mid-majors, or middle or lower-half major conference programs) than cupcakes.

I'm okay with 1 or 2 crappy teams to kick off the season, but then serve up some solid OOC programs that challenge the team and reward and entertain the fans that pay to attend these games. I don't see how that philosophy could hurt the team. Granted there's always the chance of getting picked off early in the season by a good team, but when you're UConn you shouldn't let that happen.

I'm definitely part of the "no schedule is ever good enough for me" club. Especially for home games. I see one (great) game they didn't even schedule and 5 stinky wastes of time and money games. People keep referencing metrics....I thought we were the metrics? Are we a bubble team or something?

Obviously with the true roadie with Texas, the Maui, and the game with Gonzaga, this is an overall good slate. But I'm still gonna complain

That article made my head hurt! That can't be the article @ucp990411 is referencing because it said last year's OOC schedule was rated 10th but this year's OOC is really good. Probably best in the Big East depending on how you evaluate it. So I guess we wait until he links the article he is referencing.
They said Marquette has the toughest ooc schedule. I wish that I had read more and noted where it came from.

After getting roasted by Navery for being a chronic complainer (which I not) I am happy to see long time posters who agree with me.

Marquette's big games are: @ MD, Purdue, GA neutral, Iowa St. Wisc and @ Dayton.

Metrics always matter, not just for the bubble. They factor into every seed discussion

You're easily one of the biggest complainers, but your comment checks out because you're also one of the least self aware.

I am always one to say the home slate could be better before January, but it's really really hard to complain when this exact scheduling philosophy has led to back to back National Championships. Just trust the staff and support the team.

we say that and then the seeds come out and there's always something to complain about. We think metrics would KILL us for beating an A-10 team by 15 instead of some of the garbage we trot in for slaughter? Like the committe is gonna sit down and be like hey this 14 point win over penn state really should have been a 43 point win over western grambling tech? just seems silly.

obviously, again, overall great sched. just wish the home slate had a little more in-between than the 1 boom 5 bust we keep getting

Yes the metrics objectively do exactly that. Beating a mid major by 15 that you were expected to beat by 15 is not as impactful as beating a low major by 50 that you were expected to beat by 45. If you want to argue that system is flawed and needs to change, I agree. But it's the system we have and need to schedule for.

And it's not a case of the committee saying this 14 point win over penn state really should have been a 43 point win over western grambling tech? It's that the committee doesn't have time for that level of granularity on 100+ teams. So when it's Kansas at 3 in KenPom and UConn at either #2 or #5 in KenPom depending on these OOC results, that's going to affect who the committee gives the #1 overall seed to

And that "bad" OOC schedule produced a 1 seed last season. So what exactly are people complaining about? That they have to watch 30 point home wins instead of 20 point home wins?

i don't think it's thaaaaaaat bad to say you don't want your home slate to not have 5 black holes. id rather watch them win or lose by any amount to a real team at least one of those 5 times instead. obviously what they are doing is working, so it is just nitpicking, but if that baylor game is at Gampel.....there's just no need to go to the XL Center til after Christmas? Seems like there's a middle ground but realize it is what it is

Ok I complain about the schedule because I think we as fans who support our wonderful program deserve better. Boy you certainly did your homework. I will try harder in the future to always wear my national flag blue glasses.

I hear you. The schedule has had most of the big OOC games on the road or at neutral sites the last few years.

Hurley said after this past season he realizes they need to start scheduling some of those big OOC games at home instead of all at neutral sites or away.

Actually in reading what I said in 2023 was complimentary of our schedule.
In 2022 I said I wish there was a Sat night game at Gampel for the students to enjoy. Hardley a complaint.

I’ve been a ticket holder for a while and feel the same way. It doesn’t need to be much more, replace a UNH with a high-level home and home.

It won’t hurt anything. The Baylor game should be a blast tho, can’t wait.

No you weren't, someone said our OOC schedule was fairly strong and you pushed back on that idea
How the heck do you know what I was thinking 2 years ago? I remember very clearly that I thought we were nuts to have that schedule.

Is it? Or do we just say that? Committee goes off of a lot of different factors. We were pretty adamant the last two tourneys that we were in the region of death with all the analytic darlings….so why weren’t they seeded higher if their NET and kenpom were so great? Seems like a silly reason to schedule 5 bums. I’m not even arguing that all have to be major conf teams haha I’d love for 4 bums and one team that’s okay.

Thinking this week for the rest of it?
From a Register article about 3 weeks ago. So this week or next week.

Mid-September: The Big East should unveil its 2024-25 schedule some time around Sept. 15, perhaps a bit earlier. Now that the NBA and NHL have released their respective schedules, the league can begin to solidify dates at buildings like Madison Square Garden, Fiserv Forum, etc. And probably add a little cushion time for the barrage of coaches' complaints that typically follow.
