NIL insanity - Florida

Splits could be wrong, that part wasn't Trilly. But Texas is spending near $20 mil on basketball between rev share and "NIL".

Yes that's my point. If the ncaa is to be believed, none of these NIL deals can pass muster unless they are something huge on say a national scope. TV ads at the local dealership won't cut it. There are very few that could command big NIL, like now a Mullins, or like the Boozers this year.

These football schools can't go more than 5-6 mil on BB for rev share, that's why there were cries of the Big East dominating BB. Now it looks like they are flicking their middle finger at the ncaa and saying the hell with it. There should be noise from the media types to the ncaa about what is now going on.

Not so sure anymore - it's getting more and more predictable. Was a buzzer beater away from 3 one seeds. Last year 4 one seeds.

I honestly think money talks these days in CBB - this isn't your 2023 NCAA tourney anymore. I could almost guarantee you the NC is going to come out of the top 5-6 preseason teams confidently.

The odd thing with Florida is they are kinda rolling back a similar team that just lost in the R32, and the team that won it all in a tough field had 3 stud guards.
Absolutely. Spending a lot of money doesn’t guarantee anything but NOT spending a lot of money probably guarantees you won’t win it

During the tourney there were a number of Intuit commercials featuring several UConn players together, and at least 1 featuring Solo Ball. Any idea how lucrative that is and whether it is a firm connection we are building on? They were wearing UConn jerseys which suggests to me that UConn was getting paid and then paying the players in turn. It's like we now need to follow our sponsorships like we have followed recruiting and portal opportunities. Are commercials like that worth thousands, hundreds of thousands, more than a million?

I believe the way that works is that the players are getting paid directly and the school receives royalties for use of their licensed properties.

Those are great questions in my mind that many have guesses how it works but there is no clear visibility and the only available info is not from the actual sources. I suggested to Jared Kotler of Connecticut Scoreboard Podcast to try secure folks with intimate knowledge of NIL topics. Not other talking heads but folks who work in that space. Jared’s approach is always very factual and even though fun, he asks the right questions without fluff and unnecessary showmanship. I believe he would ask the right questions and follow ups for us to gain understanding how it all ties together. Jared is one of the BY users.

Not sure there will be a point in having two rounds in the NBA draft going forward. If this continues no one will choose NBA over guaranteed college money that will be double or more what you get in the pros.

It will be nothing but seniors

I do wonder if this will drive up the pay the NBA gives first rounders to try to compete with college
