All the grains of salt as I just saw it on the Internet...but 247 just reported Haugh at Florida is getting $10MM to come back

Gotta imagine Chineylu is gone now purely based on the fact they can't possibly have money to pay him, right?!?

I hope he has that in writing. Jaden Rashada made Florida famous for pulling out of NIL arrangements.

Golden squeezes the gold out of his donors. Wild. I mean he's good, but he wasn't even POY in the SEC. I guess Golden sees the chance to run another one with that entire FC back. Feels like he could have done more by splitting that in two and gotten a great 2 and 3, maybe even a new one. Not sure it's the money best spent.

I guess if anything it shows how much pull that program/Golden have in Gainesville.

Will be interesting when golden goes to golden state and it’s too late to declare for the draft

They should name the school and state after Thomas Haugh. He scored 5 points in the national championship game and he took them to the second round this March.

He said he "plans" on being at Florida next year. Will be interesting to see who lands in Chicago & GS. I mean if either one of Schyerer & Golden have aspirations to go home and coach in the NBA, while at their peak, now is the time.

So I just did a little research (read:ChatGPT) and the economic value of a national championship ranged from $10-100M. You get an immediate bump in tv revenue, merch and earnings from the ncaa. long term spillover from increased applications and donations.
At some point will this turn into hosting the Olympics, cost are greater than revenue.
What other sources of income are there?

They gonna look stupid if they don’t win it all.
No sport is riskier than college basketball

To try and "guarantee" rings by dumping all this crazy money into dudes is crazy but it aint my money.

The ncaa tournament is still the most unpredictable event in sports. Not to mention the regular season. Even if key guys go down in college football there are usually several guys who can step in and be just as effective. Super hard with 5-7 guys only. What a gamble

wonder how much of mullins money was outside sponsorships. you gotta think that shot is worth a few million dollars

Not so sure anymore - it's getting more and more predictable. Was a buzzer beater away from 3 one seeds. Last year 4 one seeds.

I honestly think money talks these days in CBB - this isn't your 2023 NCAA tourney anymore. I could almost guarantee you the NC is going to come out of the top 5-6 preseason teams confidently.

The odd thing with Florida is they are kinda rolling back a similar team that just lost in the R32, and the team that won it all in a tough field had 3 stud guards.

U think that's nuts...you should see how much NIL my wife gets from me to stay on my team for the last 22+ years

Trilly said 8 and Florida people were basically saying 4 mil rev share, 4 mil planned outside sponsorships.

That doesn't add up

Football schools, especially in the SEC, have to spend 14-15 million rev share on football. If he is getting 4 mil himself, that would leave 2-3 for the rest of that roster.

True. but those buzzer beaters are part of it all. Thats the risky biz of it. That's not isolated to just this year's tourney.
Also, Florida wasnt a top 6 team until later. We were a 2 and almost won it. I think there were eight teams that were capable of winning it all this past year. Either way, pouring egregious money into a 1 in 8 shot is crazy (and it was usually the top 6 who won it before nil , if not for uconn)
Field takes a precipitous drop next year. There is a ton of talent pouring into the draft. To me, last year the NC was coming out of a pretty small group (UM, UA, UConn, Duke, Florida, Illinois). Never thought Houston had the chops. I'd say the group this year will be similar, just as it was the previous year (Auburn, Duke, Houston, Florida, Bama).

There are a few teams next year that will have portal frankensteins that could come together - Tenn, Ville, Texas.

Uconn no chance?

Surprised he didn't even put his name in to at least go through the process once before his senior year. Lendeborg said the predraft process was very helpful for him getting feedback from teams on what he needed to work on for his senior year

Rev share does not include NIL and other sources of income to the players, right now it seems limitless for some schools. Have to believe that some schools will spend $30M on basketball.

NBA drafts 50 guys a year with a chance to stick and make some money.
College basketball has 150 teams needing at least 7 guys on the payrole for hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars. College basketball is the golden goose for 90% of the players. NBA is a pipe dream. How long will this goose bleed gold? Who knows? But every kid should grab every nickle he can and not give "One dime back."

Splits could be wrong, that part wasn't Trilly. But Texas is spending near $20 mil on basketball between rev share and "NIL".

Just wait, things are going to escalate even further.

The House v. NCAA plaintiff attorneys are asking a federal judge to settle a dispute over the NIL deal approval process. If they prevail, it could mean the end of any semblance of a salary cap for Division I athletic departments.

On Monday, plaintiff attorneys Jeff Kessler and Steve Berman filed a motion requesting a court order prohibiting the College Sports Commission from considering multimedia rights holders and others to be classified as “associated entities”—the designation held by boosters and collectives that requires extra scrutiny.
