With you there, but I still find it perplexing overall.
 
We were excited to have the opportunity to see 2 of the 3 incoming frosh, and gotta confess, after watching a bit, we switched channels to watch something else. There was too much 1 on 1 going on, little ball movement. Then, I decided to tune back in and saw the comeback with the full court press, and it was great to see them pull out the victory.
 
Kennedy Smith was better than advertised, imo.

I was also really impressed by Koval and Soltau. They moved very well with and without the ball.

ND will be formiddable next season
 
Too early to be disappointed in our players. How is Strong’ health? Will Morgan ever be a defender? Allie’s D wasn’t bad. School is out on Her 3 point accuracy.

I didn’t watch it, sounds like it was an exciting comeback. These things usually aren’t a display of great team basketball to say the least.

Feel bad for Morgan that USA were -22 in the 12 minutes she was on the floor. +/- is a flawed stat, but must have been a tough game for her. Again, these types of games are a better showcase for players who like to take a ton of shots and Morgan seems more like a UConn type team-minded player.

That game was literally painful to watch! Not the kind of game I would expect any of our recruits to shine in. I could hardly believe how bad that first half was. Just a series of bull rushes into a crowd under the basket followed by a wild, out of control shot. The offense really wasn’t much better in the second half but they were able to completely fluster the World team with their defense. Really an ugly game though, and not one that should be used as any kind of evaluation tool.

I don't care if she scored 40 points or was on the floor when her team gave up 100 points.........my evaluation of any future UConn player isn't swayed by their performance in any single game, especially an all-star game..........I'm pretty confident that Cheli is a multi-talented glue player who will thrive in Geno's system.......
 
World came to play and finally the US team figured that out. The US came to showboat. Just horrible team ball. Nine assists on 79 shots!

I didn't see showboating, just a lack of cohesion among players not familiar playing with each other. No real PG's either. Morgan clearly is a wing.

Maybe I'm using the wrong word. Selfish works. Passing to open teammates versus going one on 3 is selfish to me. And passing, the simple kind, doesn't require familiarity. They can't be any less familiar than a team from a bunch of different countries. Maybe she is a wing, but in her defense it's hard to get a flow when you're in and out of the game sometimes in consecutive possessions.
 
I remember Coach Valley following Ajsa Sivka a while ago. I heard a couple times on the broadcast that she wasn’t sure if she wanted to play Collegiately, would be draft eligible next year. 6’4, can shoot the heck out of the ball and played some good defense. She would’ve been a great pickup.

 
I couldn't keep my eyes off Sivka, Fournier and Swords.

Ajša Sivka is a very nice player. Fournier's motor is very impressive. Disappointed we weren't in Swords' radar. KBA is getting a couple of good ones in Syla and Olson.

Thats' why they have Sarah. She is supposed tremendous rebounder.

And the game is more than rebounding. We saw last year South Carolina lose despie crushing Iowa on the boards.

The game overall comes down to basketball players.

I would love a fundamentally sound tall expereinced post that is well-versed in all of the fundamentals.
 


I found this year's World Team representation much more interesting than last year. In 2023, only two players from this team were headed for the NCAA for the following season. This time, 9 players will be in the NCAA when the next season starts. Two of the 3 players who won't make it are not there yet, Olivia Vukosa, Class 2026 and Daria Biriuk Class 2025. That leaves only Ajsa Sivka, who will turn 19 on November 23. Last year, the two players who headed for the NCAA were Diana Collins at Ohio State and Leyticia Vasconcelos at Baylor, both of whom failed to make the grade for their teams. Unfortunately, once again this year, the #1 player in the country wasn't in uniform (Sarah Strong) and even the #2 (Jaloni Cambridge), although the week before, they were from Chipotle Nationals and seemed to be doing very well. Last year, #1 player Juju Watkins, was not in uniform. It's worth mentioning, however, that despite an effort to be better represented this year, there were still some major absentees from the World Team. I'll mention just 4 names: Juste Jocyte (Lithuania), Dominique Malonga (France) Awa Fam and Iyana Martin Carrion (Spain).

I agree, I am very high on Morgan and think she can be an impact player for UConn right away.

Just tough to see she struggled because I know these types of things means a lot to these kids, but it definitely doesn’t mean anything.

It seemed to me that, with the exception of a couple of players, the US players were being subbed in and out so fast that they had no chance to establish any sort of rhythm.

I don’t remember which UConn signee it was but she was handling the ball and reminded me a lot of Nika. UConn has some great talent coming and so does SC. One thing needs to be said that I think some are forgetting, but Edwards was the only big in the game for the US. With Sarah out there really was nobody else.

Edwards does have a short game. She’s very smooth around the rim, but she’s also got a lot of bounce. She’s a relentless rebounder and was All-State in volleyball, basketball and soccer. (She also has a 5.0 GPA and will be studying engineering in the Honor’s College).
