Nika Injured

I sincerely hope that she comes back to the US to receive the best medical care.

Out the rest of the season. This goes far beyond just Euro Ball. She might not even be able to go to training camp and get cut. Truly devastating circumstances.

The ironic thing about Besiktas, Nika's team, playing in this game, they shouldnt have.
This game normally is the winners of the Euroleague and Euro Cup, from last season.
Besiktas lost the Euro Cup to the London Lions. However, the Lions ownership, late last season said they would not field a WBB team to play on the International level. So Besiktas, the runner up took their place. The Lions still have a team that plays in the British WBL, a weak league IMO, and no international players to speak of.

Another ACL. <moan>

I was so expecting her to use her Euro season to develop her game. Big setback.

For what it’s worth, Nika was having a very nice game when she went down in the 3rd qtr with 11 pts, 3 rbs & 9 assists. The play she was injured on came off a steal with Nika set to head down court with the ball.

After feeling really bad about this news for several hours, I have concluded that Nika will be back, better than ever because she is undoubtedly one of the toughest, most determined athletes I’ve ever seen.

The injury is incredibly unfortunate and a big issue. Nika needed the development.

This is what I was thinking about when I heard the news:

Consider for a moment the professional basketball journey of Christyn Williams.

One must wonder about the impact of a full college season, followed immediately by a WNBA season (granted not a lot of game time but certainly intense practices and fitness work) followed on immediately by pro basketball. Such a shame some/most(?) players cannot afford to take time off and properly recover.

This has been a serious concern for WBB players for a number of years. The year round grind of the W + overseas basketball, added to those players coming into the W directly after completing a tough college season has resulted in far too many injuries to talented players.
