Nika injured ☹️

A 3-4 week recovery for a young athlete indicates a pretty nasty sprain. I'm sure she'll be ok although watching from the sidelines isn't her favorite thing to do.

I HATE hearing this! Nika is my all time favorite Husky.

A lot depends on how much its torn. Might be a small tear or could be a large tear. 3-4 weeks suggests a slight tear.

Guess she's gonna have to bust out those big ole ankles braces again.

This young woman and her injuries have caused me and many others a whole lot of agita over the last five years.

The video of the Croatia versus Greece FIBA game is on Youtube. Nika was having a spectacular game. 21 points and 7 assists.

This is obviously not good news. But if you watch the video, I think you will be thankful that it was not worse. She was down for a long time and she was carried off the court. It is her left leg, which is the one she had ACL surgery on. The way she was grabbing at her leg, I was worried that it might be an achilles injury.

I am hoping that she is able to give the WNBA a real shot in 2026 and this will not interfere with that.

She was at their next game on Saturday (yesterday) against Denmark and she was using a cane but she was only favoring her left ankle slightly. No cast, no boot.

Nika holds a special place in the hearts of many of us on the Boneyard and I wish her a speedy recovery and hope she is on the court for Sopron by mid December, but in any event by early January.

You got this, Nika.

A torn ankle ligament is a grade 2 or grade 3 sprained ankle.
That is correct. A sprained ankle sounds innocuous enough but if you have ever had a severe sprain (as I suspect many of you have) you know they hurt a lot and can take forever to heal.

Dang! Hate to hear or see about anyone suffering an injury. Just because you know how hard they work and what they have sacrificed to reach that level. I am wishing our beloved Nika a speedy and safe recovery.

Repeated ankle sprains can have a permanent impact to the stability of the joint. I know from personal experience from years of volleyball. I think the ankle braces will need to become a permanent part of her playing attire.

Here's hoping that she follows the path of Stephen Curry with early career ankle injuries that he surmounted.

I had dozens of sprained ankles when I was young and playing. I had one that was so bad that I had a boot on for a few months (luckily it worked and didn't need surgery). I always had my ankles taped and wore high topped shoes. Do they even make those type of shoes any more? I haven't seen any players wear any for years. The high topped shoes seemed to add some extra protection for twisted ankles (or maybe it just seemed like it).

I played high school ball in the middle 2000's ( 2003-2007) and I had to really look hard to find high topped basketball shoes. Most at that time were mid or short ones.
