Nigeria's basketball teams out of action for two years

I just came across this article during my lunch break. If this holds up, the Nigerian Women's team won't be able to play in the World Cup, per this quote:

"The women's side, D'Tigress, who have qualified for the World Cup scheduled for September in Australia, would also be unable to attend the tournament. They would also miss a chance to tie Senegal's record of four straight titles, which they achieved between 1974 and 1981."

Two years without competition would be detrimental to a program that has been making strides in FIBA competitions.

Wow. This is just sad on many levels. Like you said, sitting out of competition for two years, especially when both men's and women's programs have been making great strides, is going to have a huge impact. The D'Tigress women's team played Team USA pretty tough in Tokyo. The men's team beat the men's USA squad. Wow this is just sad. Plus, you think about all of the hard work these ladies put in, along with the coaching staff and team trainers. Talk about a hard body shot.
