Covered every player with interviews for most...except no mention of the walk-ons (understandable) and not a peep about Kiah. She is part of the core of 9 players we will be depending upon for our 9th championship, and she should have been included in the preseason program. :(

Maybe Stokes is the secret weapon and GA wants to keep the rest of the country guessing on what UCONN is planning. She will end the season averaging 12pt/8reb/5blocks per game and a 9th NC.

Go KIAH!!!!

For those that missed it... you didn't miss a whole lot, but here is a quick rundown of some of the quotes (paraphrased at least)...

Geno Auriemma - In reference to the high expectations of the program: "it's no longer what have you done for me lately, but what are you going to do for me tomorrow?" As to the best player on the team, says Mosqueda-Lewis is it and doesn't get enough mention as the best player in the country because she's 5-11 while Stewart is 6-4, but Mosqueda-Lewis can do everything Stewie can. On Chong says he didn't think she would be able to finish around the basket in the college game as a freshman, but she has proven him wrong and she reminds him of Shea Ralph in that aspect of her game.

Dolson - Has taken on a leadership role with her big personality and was instrumental in welcoming the newcomers and emphasized the importance of the team hanging out together off the court. Big Momma Stef cooks and even cleans for some of her teammates who are roommates and neighbors. Also is working on improving her 3 point game because she wants to open up the paint for easy layups for the guards. Mentioned that she hates guarding posts that can shoot the 3 (not sure there are that many with that skill in WCBB), and she wants to present that as a defensive challenge too.

Saniya - A couple of things stood out. She mentioned time management difference between high school and college and that now she has to manage her studies, classes, practice, work out sessions, etc. Also said in high school she didn't have to work as hard and rarely worked out and that was a big change when she got to Storrs.

Meghan Culmo - Expects the team to win every game.

Hartley - Says she gets sad whenever it is mentioned this is her last year. Talked about remembering when she was a freshman people mentioning that the time flies and now looking back on her first three years, it's true, and that she will miss UConn because she loves it there. Ankle is 100%, will still tape it up, but the brace is gone.

Briefly mentioned Tuck and Jefferson's maturation. Talked about Banks returning and that it takes a while to get over a knee injury mentally especially when driving to the basket. No mention of Stokes, Pulido, and Lawlor.

Somewhere in another thread someone suggested we stop calling our newest members walk-ons. Let's respect them by using their names; they have earned that.;)

Not sure why that's an issue. Is it a false statement? I'd think the 2 walk ons would be incredibly proud that they earned a spot on the team without having a scholarship. After all, they needed to try out for the team, meet with the coaches and players, and then they were ultimately chosen. To me it's an honor. Not sure why anyone would think otherwise.

I agree. I don't look at it as a put down.

Pulido has a scholarship for this year.

REALLY? Based on what facts or observations or comments from the staff? This is just wishful thinking. She might average this against the weak part of the schedule but not against quality competition. We shall see what she does on Monday.

As I said in another thread, she COULD achieve those averages if she played 30 minutes a game, but that is not likely to occur barring an injury to Stef (perish the thought).

The interesting question (to me) is how many minutes will be played with both Stef and Kiah on the floor at the same time -- it happened quite a bit in the two exhibition games. That would make it hard to find appropriate time for Breanna and Morgan (which probably means that it won't happen too much), but it might be desirable against bigger and stronger teams, e.g., Maryland.

It was just a statement.

Based on nothing. Wishful thinking? Maybe? but I can hope!

Dont take things so serious man!!!!

We could call them T (for Tierney) and Polly (For Brianna Pulido) - that's what Geno and the team call them....

I disagree. I think more than enough has been said about Kiah. Enough talk. Take the spot light off and let's just root for her and see how it goes.

Just sayin' if you're going to talk about everyone on the team...you should include everyone on the team. TLaw and Polly are going to have some fun this season, with getting major moments in blowout games. But NEXT year, when Stef is gone, Kiah will be our starting center, and deserves to have had at least a mention in the preseason piece.

It may be an editor's choice don't make more of it than it deserves. Many things may be involved.

Agree. The folks doing the editing of the piece have priorities other than fairness and perhaps not even basketball knowledge.

Did anyone hear the announcer during the men's game yesterday fracturing the pronouncing of Chiney Ogwumike's name. Yikes!
