Does that matter? Do the directions stipulate the answer has to be factually correct? Or do you just need to guess what answer will be given the most?

I've got no dog (animal) in this fight, but its pretty clear to me and everyone what an animal mascot is in sports and what is not. A Patriot is not an animal by virtue of being a characteristic of a human. If someone says name an animal, no one is answering Patriot, Cowboy or Steeler.

Yeah, I pondered it, but given all the human names (those plus Redskins, Chiefs, Raiders, Bucaneers...) it was obvious that non human animal was the intent.

Yes, but there is no team called "the Humans" or Homo Sapiens Sapiens. So the team name is not an animal name. It's a profession or characteristic.
