Even if we win this week, if I were voting I'd put the Bears #1 to start the season. Losing Tiff is going to be more harmful then we realize and Griner and Sims are enough to start the season as #1. Give our frosh some time though and I'd bet we end the season #1.

This all assumes Griner stays on the bench.

We will go through an adjustment phase losing Tiff, while Baylor should start the year very strong. Once we get a few games under our belt and our frosh get into the swing of things, we should be good to go.

By tournament time it will be Battle of the Titans with every other team playing the role of mere mortals.

I don't buy that. Of course we will miss Tiff, but it's not anything like losing Maya. KML probably starts, Kiah asserts herself and three bright stars come in. Adjustment? If there is one it will be over with by the time we face any significant opponent.

Graves is s nice player. Kinda like Stokes. Potential, but to expect she will replace Johnson is insane.
Well, they expected Massengale to be a savior, so .......

To me the dark horse is Delaware. They got a taste of the big time this year and will be returning all of their starters. If they work their butts off over the summer, they may be able to go much further than they did this year. EDD and friends will be on a mission.

Next year's #4? I'd say KML to start with Brianna taking over 5 minutes in and KML sliding over to the 3. Oh..#4 in the country...never mind.

That comment by Pat last year was another example of an atypical behavior for her. I can't imagine the Pat of 10 years saying anything like that.

The early (HS) expectations were that she was a super point guard with her heart set on UConn. Though they were a year apart, there were some comparisons with Hartley and even speculation about how they might play together.

Hartley, of course, came to UConn, for which we are all grateful.

Massengale visited Tennessee at one point and I don't think she got an offer. Then to UConn where there was reportedly a meeting with Geno with Ariel's dad in attendance. There has been a lot of speculation about who said what but only those present know for sure. There can be no question that she did not get an offer.

Back to Tennessee where she got an offer, accepted, and was annointed to be thepoint guard/savior.

It hasn't quite worked out as planned. She is a good but not great PG. I don't see her leading Tennessee to the promised land. Meanwhile Hartley is a special player and a likely future All-American. Her stats surely include ring size.

That said, she did take over PG responsibilities as a frosh for a top-10 team without any help. I mean, who was gonna show her the ropes -- Simmons? Stricklen?

On edit, what was I thinking? She had Bass to guide her.

Cam (or Triad), what's the ACC looking like next year? With only 4 teams in the tourney, it was tough to gauge the prospects for the rest of the league.

Duke & MD are surely the top two, but any contenders after that?

My sleeper team for next year: Louisville

I agree, Louisville had alot of key injuries this year that hurt their chances to be a much better team. Next year they should be a force in the Big East, maybe even a number 2 finish.

i agree with Cam and Best that dark horse teams could be L'ville and Delaware. i'd put both in the top 10 preseason. L'ville (and Depaul i believe) were beset by injuries. L'ville lost Tia Gibbs after the 1st game and one of their top scorers, Reid, after 8 games. i assume both will be back next year? They do lose Burke, but Reid should be back as a RS senior. how much better will she and Gibbs make them to offset the loss of Burke? they have a very weak class coming in - one kid in the top 60 and one not in the top 100. Gibbs should be a solid "replacement" for Burke as she was a starter her first year at L'ville and averaged 9 PPG.

Delaware returns everyone who started, but they do lose 5 seniors, the #6,8,9,10, and 11 scorers on the team. not a big deal maybe, but they will be incredibly thin and of their freshmen coming in, they got 4, and none are in the top 100. they will excel against teams in their own conference, but Kansas exposed their fitness. can they all get in much better shape to challenge teams in the top 10 next year? after playing PSU and watching Delaware, i think PSU wins 8 out of 10 games vs. them. i'm not sure i'd bet on UD against any of the top 10 teams...
