CINCINNATI, Ohio The top-ranked University of Connecticut women’s basketball team is headed to the Queen City to open American Athletic Conference play with a Dec. 30 matchup against Cincinnati. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Fifth Third Arena. The contest will be televised by SNY with radio coverage on the UConn/IMG Radio Network. The Huskies will look to close the 2015 calendar year with a perfect 11-0 record.

Connecticut has never lost an American Athletic Conference game since joining the league prior to the start of the 2013-14 season. The Huskies are 14-0 all-time against the Bearcats and won three games versus UC last season.

Cincinnati has lost seven of its last eight games this season, [] most recently falling to Georgia, 60-42, on Dec. 23. The Bearcats are led by sophomore Ana Owens, who averages 14.9 points per game on 35.9 percent shooting from the floor.

This should be a horrible beatdown for Cinci. Supposedly last year they struggled because they had some injuries. This year no such excuses and they are still flat out awful. To be fair, they played a tough schedule with losses to Baylor, Detroit, OSU, Michigan State, and Xavier. They also lost to Tenn Martin and those are the type of teams they need to beat if Jamelle wants to be taken seriously as a HC of a major WCBB team.

They lost to Michigan State by 40 and Baylor by 38. I have a hard time seeing how Cinci keeps the beatdown to under 40, but Geno loves Jamelle and may settle into a half court game early and often, slowing things down. We will see. Also they lost to Georgia by 18 but played them close in the 1st and 4th quarters...

Making the drive down from South Bend tomorrow!
Box office guy told me tix are complimentary. Which I find hard to believe, but I'll take it!

Hopefully this is a game that the starters only play about 20-25 mins. And where Geno lets the back-ups get a little more PT. We may even get to see more of Saniya if her IT Band didn't flare up after the Maryland game. And are we going to have a Butler court sighting?

I like Coach Jamelle Elliott...........Seems to be a nice person. But just hasn't been able to recruit the type players needed to play at the Big East or AAC level. Hopefully that changes real soon for her because I think she is a capable coach.

Wish: Butler starts to play. Chong plays more mins.

More Chong, please. Saniya was a legendary HS shooter, but something happened when she got to UConn. Regarding KLS, someone remarked in another thread that shooters don't lose their ability to shoot, but, sadly they seem to do. Ekmark was another great HS shooter who's had trouble finding the bottom of the net here. It's psychological, I'm sure. So many disappointments have followed Saniya that she may by now be relaxed enough to start hitting her shots. That was the first thing I thought when she stepped up in the Maryland game and buried that late three: no hesitation, didn't touch iron. We all remember baseball catchers who suddenly are unable to throw the ball back to the pitcher; it happens in many sports. We all want (and need) for Lou to be the next great Husky, no one more than she. You go, girl.

Regarding your last sentence. Why not Collier, Butler, or Chong to be the next great? I believe they all have the potential. UCONN does not need her to be great, just very good, as long as the rest of the players are very good, imo.
