Next great UConn RB in the foot steps of Todman, Brown, Cauley and Dixon. The kid has the extra something. Only thing I'm not so sure about is his fifth gear break away speed. Love the vision, finding and making holes, cut back ability and toughness. Imagine how good this kid could be with an improved line. Go to love what we are seeing.

I was saying the same things all off season. People killed him because of the fumbles last year, but just wasn't physically strong enough for FBS ball last year. The kid is nice.

He is also the a a answer to a trivia question. Who was the other parade all American RB with Leonard Fournette?

If he can continue to improve he has the potential to land a Darren Sproles type role in the NFL. He probably won't be drafted due to his size but he has a lot of good tools. Needs to block better in the backfield, though.

Being the best doesn't mean much when everyone is bad at it, though.

He actually makes contact with oncoming rushers at least slowing them down. For being the runt of the bunch he doesn't shy from contact.

He is the best pass, blocker of all,the backs. By far.

The comma placement here is very confusing, but I agree with your post

He is the best we have at seemingly every RB skill right now. The only issue is that at least once per game he lines up in the wrong position (or goes right when he should have gone left). It happened again in the 1st quarter against UCF. It didn't matter because the play was successful, but that won't always be the case.

That being said, as evil's go....it is probably the least of all available for our group.

That freaking over-the-shoulder catch on the wheel route for 60 yards was a thing of beauty. 50% of CFB wide receivers couldn't make that catch. Really impressive.

For the old guys ... Newsome reminds a little of Chuck Foreman of the 1970's Minnesota Vikings. A good RB who can catch and get YAC.

It will be nice watching him for four years.

commas are due to phone posting. I agree with you, on alignment stuff. i honestly I think he is fatigued sometimes. Ideally I would give him 8-10, rushes and 5-7 receptions. It would help immensely if RJ starts running like he showed last year, don't worry about cuts till your past the LOS. Hopefully yesterday was a start.

That's one of those plays that I'd like @Kgun7 to break down by frame... i couldn't tell if the misdirection was intentional or due to mistake.

On the goalline QB sneak (IIRC), Newsome ran to the sidelines after he had a big run, then when he got to the sidelines the staff had him run back in. He was obviously out of breath and was not going to get the ball. I thought that was weird.

#44 was my first jersey.

Agree with you and noyenox about the fatigue. He seems winded at times, but otherwise he has as much speed from the RB position as we have seen in some time.

Don't think he was out of breath, they changed personnel and wanted AN back on the field. It's not uncommon.

I've known Newsome for years, although fatigue is part of the game I've yet to see him ask out of the game. But, I can guarantee you he's not coming off the field because he wants to. It's because the coaches or the personnel call for it. He never came off the field in HS and his training regimen prepares him to stay on the field. The coaches say he's the strongest player on the team pound-for-pound, his conditioning is a part of that.

Looking at the nubmers online, it's hard to conclude anything other than Newsom is carrying the team in yardage production and scoring. We need to keept the little guy going, but I'm still not over beting worried about him squeezing the pig tight enough. It' seems to be getting better though.

Good observations, I'm sure his conditioning is as good as anyone on the team... just thought it was odd for him start to run off and the run back again before the snap, we know we have issues getting the play in on time and this might be related. I would have figured for a QB sneak situation on the goalline you might want to put in the bigger back to push the pile. In the end, not a big deal.

He is a nice back. Good hands and good out of the backfield but when you see a really good back you see he is a bit slower than the best. Caulley Brown Todman were all much much better stronger and faster. I think he is more on the next level with Dixon and Brockington-excellent college backs but not quite at the next level. Even watching Mack yesterday. While he didn't have a great game he was always a threat to break one and finally did rip off a very sweet long run. Todman Brown Caulley could all do that. I don't see that explosiveness in Newsome. He is best getting the ball in space as a receiver.

You also can't compare a player whose touches are limited because he can't deal with the pounding to Donald or Todman. Brown gained what -- like 2200 yards at his peak? And we're putting Newsome, who hasn't come near 1000 yet, in that discussion.

Love the kid and he's a serious weapon, but please.

Disagree. If you don't see explosiveness then you're not paying close enough attention. Or maybe he is just that much faster than the other guys. He will be one of our most elite we have ever had when its all said and done. Obviously it is tough to compare the eras and you have to factor in things such as the OL's and OC's and opportunities to play early but his stats (All purpose yards/Not going to have quite the rushing yards) will be similar with a little more of receiving slant than those other top 3 you listed. Next year I expect that he will have some ALL AAC numbers and possibly some ALL American type numbers behind a line that only loses 1 starter and with a coordinator and QB in their 2nd years. He is definitely in the mold of a Sproles, more of a receiving back but he runs, in all formations and directions, very well too.
