If you're not thrilled with meaningless New Year's Day football games here's an alternative:

For those with DirecTV, channel 614 has a triple header of UConn/Syracuse games on New Year's day starting at noon.

First up, Noon to 2 PM, 2011 Big East Tournament Semi-Final;

Next, 2 PM to 4 PM, January 15, 1990 regular season game from the HCC. Visitor's lineup had LeRon Ellis, Billy Owens, Derrick Coleman, Stevie Thompson and David Johnson against Rod Sellers, Nadav Henefeld, Murray Williams, Tate George and Chris Smith. Off the bench, Lyman Depriest, Dan Cyrulik, and John Gwynn. I didn't see Scott Burrell or Toraino Walker play at all.

Final game, 4 PM to 6 PM, 1995 regular season game from Gampel (first time there for the visitors).

These three games are all a replay of the same lineup of games on that channel tonight. Watched the 1990 game and some interesting stuff I didn't remember. UConn played zone quite a bit and the visitors played a lot of man to man.

Also, the speed of our lineup and the way we ran the break was really impressive. We're talking one dribble and three passes to go the length of the floor for a layup or dunk. Even when we got forced into a half court game there was nowhere near the dribbling of today. That was no all-star lineup but they played fast and played great defense and all the players seemed to be in better shape than this year's team.

I’ve had enough football. Think I’ll go to the casino Tuesday.
