New Transfer Portal Rules

I find it highly likely that the portal will officially open after the championship game but much of the recruiting will happen before that happens. Not sure how you really police that though.
Yeah I'm chuckling at the thought of Rick Pitino sitting around for 4 weeks after St John's misses the NCAA tournament before he starts rebuilding his team

Tampering will definitely happen.

But at least things can't be officially finalized and visits can't happen until the season is settled.

Gives coaches who go far a chance to make their case before the dotted lines are signed and visits are taken.

I think in theory it’s supposed to correct for the present penalization of teams that go deep in the tournament and cannot focus on the portal which would have been open already in the past few years.
Thanks.

Do you know what the transfer portal window was before these changes?

The head coach Portal rule also makes a lot of sense.

Gives the new coach an opportunity to come in and retain the players before they make any decisions to leave and go elsewhere.

I guess. It’s not worse at least!

The college football Portal season has been insane so far.

Guys are literally entering the portal to leverage negotiations and going back to their former school.

This stuff really isn't over until guys are enrolled and on campus.

Making it so guys pretty much can't commit is helpful for sure.

Mike Honcho got it. I just recalled it was sometime during the tournament which is part of why it felt like the stars really aligned for us when we ultimately got Cam Spencer after apparently failing to get Nick Timberlake.

What was the “window” before? Does this mean that players have to hypothetically be courted, make visits, and finalize their decisions all within 15 days otherwise they’re not eligible to transfer? That sounds awfully fast to me if that’s what it means.

It was 30 days before, but this is just to enter the portal. You don't have to sign

It does as long as the school does it's hiring promptly.

Waiting a maximum 30 days after your coach is fired/leaves to transfer could be bad for the players as spots will fill up elsewhere.

That's what I was confused by. What's the window for signing?
No window for signing. Real deadlines are enrollment deadlines at new school for the start of the school year.

Soft deadlines are when coaches want you into their program by summer practices and the like.
