New Tailgating Policy

I think if you got in early and set up by 12:30 you were fine. Lots of spaces between cars were left open. By 1:00 or 1:30 it filled in quickly and it turned into a game of Tetris for people trying to find open spots in the Blue lot.

The intention of keeping the gravel free for vehicles is fine. The problem is making the change after decades of past practice in the middle of the season. I recommend:

1. Revert to the original system for the rest of this season, stating that it will be reviewed and changed next year.
2. Map out the area, planning for each vehicle to have a 10' by 20' (I think that is the distance between gravel lanes) space.
3. Mark the spaces clearly before the game.
4. Sell the number of passes to match the spaces.
5. Recognize that there will be a decrease (about 50%) in the number of spaces in the current configuration.

Unfortunately, no one seems to think 4 and 5 are important. I wish I could sell my legal services first and then be able to tell folks I don’t have the capacity to perform them.

If the purpose of this policy is for medical emergencies, just create an additional dedicated driving lane or 2. There is the outer loop and 3 driving lanes heading toward the stadium which are always clear. It seems all you really need are 1 or 2 "horizontal" lanes in yellow and that would allow enough space for emergency vehicles to get close enough to any emergency. If they really need to get closer to a single car, people can move their tents and tables easily enough.

I've done festivals. The state has laws that cover "Mass Gathering Permits" Pretty sure these new rules are to comply with those regulations. Good thing they also mandate having the port-o-lets in the lots

It was rumored to be a medical emergency at the Ball St game. We all said the same thing: in an emergency, people can just move their stuff.

Well. what we heard was that the emergency came shortly after the start of the game when not everyone had made it into the stadium but most had. And supposedly there was a group that left their entire tailgate set up before going in and the vehicles could not get to the emergency.

A few folks in our group said they saw the remains of someone’s tailgate when they left at the end of the game. It looked like a hurricane had come through. But apparently - again rumor - was that the emergency vehicles just drive right through the set up.

I wonder if we will ever get the real reason for all this…

I don’t understand why they can’t just paint paralllel lines (12 feet apart?) along the gravel road ways, and just enforce a rule that you can’t tailgate between those lines. I think it would solve the emergency access issue and preserve the basic tailgating layout that’s worked at the Rent for years.
