New Tailgating Policy

It must be that they want the gravel roadways clear for emergencies but I don't see how that will work if they try to park 2 cars per space. I am not a blue lot regular though so who knows

The yellow coats directing traffic have gotten lazy the past couple years in blue lot… they are letting people leave a lot of open parking space between cars.

Look at all the open grass in those first few rows of that picture; they could fit a lot more vehicles in there with a little effort.

Looking at the Blue lot picture and the UConn diagram they don't jive. There isn't enough grass to park 2 vehicles and set up a pop up tent in the same space. This would mean taking up parking spots for tents, tables etc.

Yeah, the diagram is not even close. They show a parked car, a table, 3 chairs a tent and a cornhole set up in one spot. No freaking way. It should be interesting to see how strictly this is enforced.

And btw, the painted lines were there for Ball State…

Yes, now looking at it, doesn't half the amount of spaces in the Blue lot? So far this year the Blue lot has been pretty much full without this new policy

1) Yes. It halves it.
2) Why would you announce this on a Thursday, preceding a home game, when you have almost a month-long wait until the next one? There must have been a serious safety concern.

This. Halved. I ran/worked operations at a car camping music festival for years. I'm guessing the directive came from a public safety agency, probably East Hartford Fire and/or police. At the festival, we were told fire lanes needed to be kept open at all times. We laid out the grid, it was based on 10' by 40' spaces (car in front, tent/party area at rear), with the painted lines, white for the spaces, orange for the fire lanes (aka the gravel).

It's going to be a cluster! I'm guessing confrontations galore between the LAZ parking attendants and blue pass holders, and probably, neighboring tailgating partners when everyone starts being entitled and spreading out their tailgates and in finding on neighboring spaces.

When we routinely had sellout or larger crowds there were no extra spaces in blue lot and it worked. When the crowds dwindled the parking attendants allowed empty spaces. Crowds are larger now, and they won't be allowing as many empty parking spaces. Not a big deal.

The diagram is not accurate. The space between the gravel fire lanes can accommodate two cars without the rest. They usually put two unrelated vehicles in that space, necessitating tents in the gravel. This will work ONLY if one car gets the entire space between gravel lanes. If that happens, this could work and make parking faster; unfortunately, they will reduce the number of spaces by half.

Let's face it, there are bunch of folks in the Blue Lot who are selfish slobs. Now that there's a bit of juice back in the program, they need all the spaces. Enforcement had become a bit loose with the dwindled crowds. Now the Blue Lot has been filling up even though many Blue tag holders are still coming in. You get one space with your Blue Tag, not two or three. How tough is that?

having to enforce fair tailgating rules because the crowds are large is a nice thing for the program.

We used to be a proper society, and self-regulate.

I think they need to drop the policy of being able to park where you want during the first couple of hours. It creates spaces where no one parks up front, then when the lot fills up and you try to park in those empty spaces, you can't get there because people are tailgating in the gravel lanes.

Just got an email about new tailgating policy in the Blue lot. They are going to paint lines, and you need to stay just in your lined space. I wonder what brought this about, and how are they going to enforce it? I've been in the Blue lot since the place opened and never have had a space issue.

Not once since they moved to the Rent have I seen this be an issue. Theoretically could it be? Sure. But they don’t have real issues to worry about?

This.

I have a 4 yr old and another on the way, and unfortunately as much as I would like to come and tailgate, I do my best to get to the games with at least a child in tow. If I want to watch the game, the attention span before meltdown is about 2-3 hours, so I have to pick my poison.

Way too much info to get to this part: I have to come later (about an hour before kickoff is my target). Both games this year I got there with my blue lot pass only to be forced all the way out to the fields and told there was no room when there were tons of open spaces in blue lot but they were either a.) blocked by those (rightfully) tailgating in the stone area or open spaces themselves were taken up by tailgating gear.

By actually lining up cars in appropriate spots, even if people bleed their gear into the stones, and filling front to back, we will have way more ease of use, and it will prevent people trying to turn into areas where people are set up to get to an open space.

(For the sake of discussion, I am not the one that said anything/complained).

Blue lot was always park on the grass, tailgate on the gravel. Since it opened. Now the diagram says the gravel has to be clear? Like @BlueandOG said, this makes no sense, there will be no room, and will be mayhem.

We have parked against the wooden fence for the past 2 games and tailgated behind. No issues. But we have been pushed further down blue lot.
