New Synthetic Practice Fields Planned

Two new synthetic practice fields are on the BOT February 25, 2026 agenda. The fields will replaced the existing grass fields. Construction of the fields will be expedited if approved by BOT.

Will there be a natural grass field still available? After all, Rentscler Field is still grass. I would think they’d like to be familiar with that surface.

The Moon used to be the field behind the field house because it was used so frequently it never had grass. Now that is also artificial turf

Realistically if it is ever going to happen it is at least a couple decades away.

Also, realistically for it to happen the school would need to buy the property EO Smith sits on, (and pay for the school's relocation), then put the football stadium (among other things) there. I doubt any of this happens in my lifetime (I'm 65) unless a multi-billionaire benefactor ponies up the money to do this solely on the condition that it gets done within a specific window of time.

I don't understand removing the grass practice fields for a team with a home field made of grass.

The Arizona Cardinals just completed a brand new practice facility and it includes three grass fields. Their home field is also grass.

I was there a few years ago for a fb camp. They had more weeds than I expected to see. Should at least keep 1 grass field i would think.

I could see if they have 2 practice fields and they use them every day, they have to be in rough shape. Maybe the plan is to put artificial turf in The Rent sometime soon. That would be a shame.
