"At the first couple of practices I attended, I was impressed with the energy of new offensive coordinator and receivers coach T.J. Weist who has been known to sprint 40 yards down the field to high five one of his receivers after a great catch. Following today's festivities something else caught my eye and that was the rapport that he has already developed with his players. Well after the scrimmage was over Weist engaged in an impromptu game of volleyball using a football as a prop with his receivers. When that was over, he posed with a photo with his beaming group of pass catchers at the request of Weist's wife."

As the long lost HFD would say... "huge uptick".

Joe Williams, ankle injury, walking boot...ugh. Hope it's minor but a walking boot may mean no spring game.

Boy, if I'm anywhere near correct, change in OC is going to make a big difference.

Confidence in the leader is a huge part of group success. I like what I've heard from Coach Buggs and Coach Weist. We had young guys with talent last year on offense, we took our lumps and this year we will make some noise. New sets of eyes and strategy from guys with success in other college football programs are going to play a big part.

The Courant's Paul Doyle view on same subject:

"I think right now we're probably on schedule to where we need to be," Weist said. "We're progressing well every day. The goal every day is to get better, understand, learn, execute the offense. I think these last two scrimmages we've come off and shown a good physical aspect of the offense. Every player is really executing with a good physicality and a good understanding and a good finish."

"Head coach Paul Pasqualoni has hinted at some new wrinkles in the offense. Weist said he's preaching patience and consistency to his players. "We don't want just big plays, we want sustained drives," Weist said. "Just good plays after good plays. If a good play becomes a big play, then so be it. But I think we were patient [Saturday]. We didn't always try for a knockout punch. We had some good drives and I think that's what is key for our players to understand, that we have to execute one play at a time."
