New Commit: Rrezon Elezay

Big Riz appears to be mid growth spurt if the recent roster info is to be believed from Fiba and Eurobasket.

Welcome Rrezon!!

With this signing and him being a developmental piece, along with Diane and Kieta mentioned to be signing elsewhere, it’s more than likely that we get an experienced big from the portal next year to play along side Reibe.
Neither Diane nor Kieta is scared of this guy. With Diane or Kieta and with the graduation of Reed and Koroma you would still need a developmental 3rd string center.

Still only 18. Needs to get with our s&c coach but looks like a future contributor. Seems to have good instincts on the defense end. I hope Tarris doesn't break him in 2 durning practice

Guess it wasn’t impossible to find a third string center with size to sit on the bench all season?

Also not Shaq or Hakeem, strange how nobody is complaining?

Glad we found the final depth piece we needed, hope he works hard to ready our guys for length.

Again, the point is that this guy is still very clearly behind Karaban and Koroma at center. Just like we've been saying

I have to give Rrezon and probably his agent a lot of credit for this move. If he has real ability, he is going to get paid handsomely starting next year. If he is just a depth piece and will be returning shortly to Europe, there is almost no better scenario than working within the Hurely system and having Reed and Reibe to compete with.

I’m not gonna go back and find the posts, but there was lots of mocking about how we wanted all league caliber third stringers and how impossible it would be to find a 7 footer to bench sit.

You wanna pretend these things weren’t said on repeat for months? Fine. But I know people remember.

Reasonable arguments could be had about Karaban and Koroma playing over this theoretical development center that we now have, we’ll continue to disagree about who should play in the event of a long term injury. That’s not what I’m bemoaning here.

So, how do we feed so many mouths? Are we playing Tulane style from years back, when they would sub in a whole 5 at a time?

Some of the takes are strange here.

Did people think Yarin Hasson was keeping us from getting a big the following season or that he was going to be taking minutes from established players?

If Elezay can provide us with the 4 points and 7 rebounds Singare provided us in the non-cupcake schedule then that's cool.

Practice players are useful but this kid doesn't change the trajectory of our season and national title chances.

one of the better follows for international scouting, these are practice bodies similar to the signings before the 2022-2023 season

NK - "If he ever sees the floor, UConn is cooked"

That is the glass half empty point of view.

I say, if he ever sees the floor, he is developing at a much faster pace.

Not what I expect, but he could not have picked a much better "sandbox" to improve his skills. He will be challenged with height, muscle and quickness in practice.

I think Hurley still recruits projects, and this seems like one. My expectations are low next season in regards to game production. Just saying, I don't think PT is problematic (teamwise) in this case.

He’s an insurance policy if Reed, Reibe, and Koroma all are in foul trouble and Karaban needs to stay at PF, or if there are a few injuries in that group of guys. Wouldn’t expect anything except red alarm emergencies this year

Stay in the system and develop over time practicing with some of the best college players in the US. I’d assume this a 3-4 year project if he commits to it. You can’t teach being 7’2!

There’s no downside, he either sits on the bench all season and re-asses his prospects during portal season, or he surprises everyone and is serviceable in the event of injury. If he’s unplayably bad, Koroma will get the minutes as the emergency big.

Very logical pickup.

Sure, you're entitled to disagree with who should be the 3rd string center. But to be clear, you're not disagreeing with boneyard posters, you're disagreeing with international scouts and Dan Hurley

Agree. Elezay has no bearing on Diane or Kieta coming here. Elezay will be lucky if he sees 2-3 minutes of playing time this year and 10-15 minutes next year.
In regards to next year, if Diane came to UConn, IMO, the staff would have went with Reibe and Diane as the primary centers with Elezay still a developmental player. Assuming Diane and Kieta go elsewhere as many think, IMO, we will get an experienced big to play alongside Reibe at center while Elezay continuing as a developmental player.
