new coaches for georgetown & st. john’s. thoughts?

I hope Cooley goes to Georgetown because it would be beautiful to witness the complete meltdown that Providence fans would have. Also, a good and relevant GTown program is far more valuable to the BE than a good Providence.
They are already melting down on Friar Talk.

Cooley not leaving PC unless a P5 calls with some huge
Those who think Gtown is not an attractive option are crazy and have no appreciation for the OBE. But it’s not an option for someone like Cooley McDermott or Smart but a decent option for a proven coach who wants to rebuild a program with name recognition. St John’s may be harder sell except for an established coach with a less than stellar reputation. I feel a young coach with strong NBA connections could do well at St John’s and get someone and dones and xfer portal talent.

McDermott to ND would not be a shocker for a mid-western oriented coach.

I do. LOL, and to be fair nobody knows anything out here, including what conference UConn is in or that they even have a football team.
Lol! Fair. I just have never met a Providence fan out here or even anyone sporting their gear. I have met plenty of Hoya fans and see Georgetown gear all the time.

Not much UConn out here either but I have seen some.

.-.
I agree Gtown has more money to spend, if they want to, and a better basketball name. But they are not even close to UNC and Duke currently in national brand. I can't see how you defend that.
Currently, yes , I agree.

But the Georgetown brand at its ceiling, is just as high. I’m not talking wins and losses. I’m talking marketable brand.

There are major pop songs that mention the Hoyas. They are synonymous with college basketball and black culture. JT and AI have done wonders for marketing their brand.

To pretend they are not a major brand is silly

I see enough UConn gear here in Boston, not a lot, but it's not rare either. When I wear my UConn gear and I talk to people they instantly recognize and tie high level basketball to UConn men and women's program. I remember about 13 years ago a friend of mine who graduated from UConn in 1999 would go into job interviews on the east coast and on the west coast and the interviewer would see "University of Connecticut" on their resume and they would reply "UConn, huh? Their really good at basketball".

Interesting fact when looking at your avatar, my wife is from California and when she was my girlfriend we visited her cousins in Seattle in 2015. I proposed to her at the top of the Seattle Space Needle.

If anything Cooley will be able to squeeze out a raise or contract extension due to the possibility of him leaving. Always have to wonder where these rumors originate from.

This tweet is full of lies. Twitter is the real cesspool.

Cooley bought a condo in Providence this year and is building a new home in South County. Kevin McNamara said yesterday that Georgetown has not contacted Cooley. This whole thing was drummed up by Twitter trolls. Amazing what’s called “journalism” these days.
Or did he?

The only problem is the supposed mansion is actually in North Carolina:

* Credit to the guy on Friar Talk who actually figured that out.

Pitino to St John's. If he goes there I think they will be able to get the best of the transfer portal and gain some respectability and then hire a younger coach after two or three years for the long term. All dependent on putting some bucks into the program and facilities

.-.
I’m sure it is and really not a long drive from DC on a long weekend.
Okay, troll or for real? Wager on where Cooley is next year? I can only assume you didn’t just see him on CBSN?

If Cooley does go to GTown it would be interesting to see how GTown’s roster will change and how Providence’s roster will change. Which PC players would he take to GTown?
If Cooley goes to Georgetown, I hope he flames out. Transferring within the conference speaks to a certain lack of humble appreciation, verging on arrogant & spoiled perhaps.
I would take Carter
A good place to weigh in with my thought that he's either a 5th sweathog, or what Juan Epstein might look like a few years out of high school with his hair styled differently and some ink.

Cooley would be crazy to go to Georgetown. He is doing great in Providence and I hope he continues to do great. It’s better for the conference.

Mike Brey or the guy from Penn St will go to Georgetown and hopefully turn things around. The conference is better when Georgetown is good

I would too, we both know he wouldn’t.
I'm glad you got the sentence you quoted in correct good faith.

I didn't like Chris Beard moving from TTech to Austin either, even with him having gone to UT and the school's pending conference shift, which had not yet been announced.

Fact is, I truly didn't/don't know enough to know that he wouldn't do it. I'd just really wish that it wouldn't be true, which adds up to my admitting ignorance and hoping you're right, without doubting you.

What? I’m sure Ed is entirely content being at a small college in the smallest state in the union. I’m sure he would never want to go to the nation’s capital and coach one of the marquee teams in the Big East. I wouldn’t worry about it if I were you. Really, what would worrying do anyway?

Well, I’m sure PC fans can take a lot of comfort in this interview:

Cooley clearly says that he is worried about Kentucky.

Of course, he repeatedly refused to deny that he’s in talks with Georgetown or that he wouldn’t leave PC, but that was probably just an oversight.

I think Georgetown will hire Penn State's coach. Georgetown is not an attractive job, but Penn State is a football school and has never been successful in men's basketball. It would be a decent move for him for visibility and then if he succeeds he can get a better job. Georgetown is not a step up for Cooley.
In the world of the Power Two, coaches don’t leave a Big Ten school. Forget about the past. Too many changes have happened. Too much money and too many resources for a coach in the B1G. And why take on a major rebuilding project at a program that has only had 1 winning season in the past 8 years when he’s already a couple of years into his current building project? This isn’t the 1980s. The Georgetown brand isn’t what it once was - especially to an 18 year old recruit who’s never seen a successful Georgetown team.

Cooley might be an admirer of JT II, but if he does move to Georgetown, he probably shouldn’t hope for help recruiting from Ewing. :D

He jumped from Wagner to URI to UConn. Normal progression for a coach.
There just aren't many steps up from UConn either that will be (a) hiring and (b) hiring outside of their own legend's coaching tree. He's an alum from a smaller, less successful school than UConn and schools like UK or UNC aren't knocking on the door unless he's had much more success than he's had here—and their coaches flame out.
