interesting. i love seeing Deleware as our 4 seed. would be a fun game to watch.

The bracket Baylor is in would be a cakewalk.

How pathetic is it for the Pac 12 to have only 2 teams, one less than the CAA.

Is it really plausible they would send Duke to RI and not to Raleigh?

Not at all. Duke will definitely be in Raleigh.

If Florida gets in this will be written up as a case study in how to play the RPI game. According to RealTime Rpi, their RPI is 35, definitely respectable.

Let’s look at how they earned it:

Losses to MI, RU, KY (twice) SC and GA. Some decent teams in their, but again, these are losses.

Signature wins?
Only LSU, who seems to be playing the same game, and doesn’t have a solid win except for a win over Georgetown.

After LSU, their next best win is over Florida State, who is good enough to make the tournament. Can you really get invited to the tournament when your sole signature win is over a bubble team? That’s it.

And I haven’t yet mentioned their loss to double-digit RPI Pacific. Let the horrific loss cancel out the modest win, and you are left with …nothing.

I wonder how many times Penn State has ended up in UConn's bracket?

If I was Charlie, I would have waited until after tonight's Duke vs UConn game to come out with a new bracket. If Duke wins, they would be the #1 seed and would not see them in Rhode Island.

After last year I hope the committee is kind to Baylor. I am sure that they would love to have Griner in the Final Four. I am thinking that their dream match-ups would be UCONN vs ND and Baylor vs Stanford. I would like to see that since Baylor and Stanford have not gotten to play this year.

Could be that the only two unbeaten teams are in Baylor's bracket.

An interesting comment from Creme. Maybe I am just blinded because I am a Baylor fan and can't imagine anyone but Griner winning POY due to her defensive presence, coupled with very similar offensive and rebounding stats as Nneka's.

"Nneka Ogwumike is a leading candidate for national player of the year, but sister Chiney has been the Pac-12's best player the past two weeks."

If the seeding as shown was correct, I think the selection committee would be far better served by:

  • M0ving Duke to Raleigh
  • Moving Kentucky to Fresno
  • Moving Tennessee to Kingston
Putting Duke in UConn's bracket instead of Raleigh makes no sense (especially to set up a rematch of a game that's already been played). Sending Tennessee out to the West Coast to have a rematch against a team it already played makes no sense, especially when sending them to Kingston sets up the game everyone wants to see. And Kentucky isn't going to be a draw regardless of where they end up.

Unless the selection committee's goal is to reduce interest in the regionals by 100%, I don't see why they would follow Creme's bracket.

Great points, Alex. I have to agree 100%. However, I am not sure that the committee will want to put Pat through the torture of losing by 40 points to Geno in what could be her last tournament. Is it possible that Tennessee gets some preferential treatment to give Pat her best chance at another Final Four?

If Duke wins the ACC regular season, and makes it to the ACC tournament final.. I see no reason why we wouldnt be the #2 in Raleigh. We gotten raw deals from the committee in 2009 and 2011... cant see them messing it up again this time. One interesting thing would be if both Duke and Tenn end up as #2's. Would they dare send Tenn to Raleigh over Duke ?

.-.
Nothing against Duke... I just think the committee will do everything in its' power to make what may well be Pat's final Final Four journey as comfortable as possible.

If I am Muffett, I would not be at all happy about going to Raleigh to play a #2 seed Duke. If ND does not make the Final Four--and I hope they miss it--this would be how.

Depending on tonight's game, I hope the NCAA doesn't put Duke in the UConn bracket. It didn't work well last year. For a regional final, it was a blowout. Actually, it was just a plain and simple blowout.

Comfortable? As in easy?

If they do, they better be very careful and cover their tracks. I don't think anything like that has ever happened before, and if it were later found to be the case, the NCAA would have a real stain on their track record of NCAA selection.

Assuming they are not a #1 no track will be "easy". But they could do little things like keeping the team close to home where they are likely to enjoy greater fan support, easier travel, etc.

That's the margin if they were to play next year. This year it'd be less.

Not a small margin, but less.

I've said to Phil privately that I don't believe the committee will want to put Pat through the stress and media scrutiny that would accompany a match-up with UConn. I don't think the committee wants to make the path easy in terms of competition; it would be more like avoiding high stress. I've thought that from the beginning of the season.

I agree.

I think tonight's game, as well as the Feb UConn/ND game will have a lot to say about the top seeds (as does the Ky/Tn matchup)

I agree, I've often defended Charlie in the past, but this looks like he was multi-tasking, and the other task was getting his attention.
