Key points:
Final negotiations should be complete by Wednesday

C-7 get the name, will add 2 or 3 and quickly lock up MSG
ND to ACC next year, C-7 don't want to deal with them.

New BE is of course going to be Hq in Providence for at least short term (Can we ever get the hell out of that city?)

Expects Tulsa to be added for 2015, so here's how he lists it if I'm reading him right:
2013 - 10 teams (UConn, UC, USF, Temple, UCF, SMU, Memphis, Houston, Rutgers, Ville)
2014 - Stay at 10 as Rutgers and Louisville leave and replaced by (Tulane / ECU)
2015 - Move to 12 (Tulsa / Navy)

New potential sites for conf hoops tourney include NY/NJ/Philly/Memphis

I'm reading it as this is entirely speculation on his part, not new information.

I don't know if it entirely speculation but a large part of it likely is.

Also, what reason would the football playing successor conference have for keeping the offices in Providence?

How many seats does the Mohegan Sun arena hold? That could be a nice place for a conference X tournament if it's above 10k.

Good luck getting the okay to play the tourney at the casino.

When they played one of the early season tourneys there a year ago, they had to usher teams in and out the side doors as to avoid the casino all together.

This is Bizarro World reality. Providence College & the rest of the C-7 get everything of value: MSG for tourney, Big East name, & UConn and the rest of the leftovers get closet space in downtown Providence for their fax machine. Is Suzie REALLY agreeable to this just to keep the monies that UConn rightfully earned?
WOW!

On Saturday Marquette athletic director Larry Williams said meetings were ongoing to determine the course of the Golden Eagles' new league. He added no agreement is expected soon.

I want us just to get out. We should fight for as much as we can get but let's face the fact that the C7 is more BE than the leftovers combined. Yes we ruled basketball for the last 17yrs or so but the rest of our so called conference had nothing to do with it.

When and if we leave should the C7 get the name then?

We should get all the money upgrade our Football program (stadium) go for aau status and get the hell out!

Convenience and continuity. Changing the offices is disruptive and there are bigger fish to fry right now. Once the fires are put out, however, it needs to change.

The west coast conference and WAC play their tourneys in a casino and the MWC plays at Thomas and Mack just off the strip so I suppose Mohegan Sun wouldn't be an impossibility.

Is there anything to differentiate this from pre 2012 conference usa? Anything at all?

The A10 also has played on the boardwalk in Atlantic City as well.

Providence probably has the cheapest office space in the country. The RI economy is a grease fire.

I think you're joking right? Real estate in Providence is not cheap.

There's a fine selection of hookers who service the Boston Sports Teams and Pawtucket. Boston Real Estate is so so high. You don't think Aresco's been callng the shots do you?

Is anyone even negotiating on behalf of conference X or have we been completely overrun? Anyone who wants to leave early pays whatever exist fee they owe, IN FULL, period. For the C-7, that means the their portion of this year's TV contract. Otherwise wait 'n 27 months. If you want the BE name, too bad, you can't have it. The legal owners of the name and trademarks are keeping it in archive for future use. (I hear Wake Forest really likes the name).

Now, if you want to make an offer for it, we are listening, but it had better be really good. By good, I mean enough that you wouldn't want it. The doormat attitude of the remaining teams (in each round of realignment) has been infuriatingly incompetent.

What good is the name to our new conference? MSG would not want us to play there anyway. Get some money for it and move on. That is clearly the theme...moving on. Getting to the next stage sooner rather than later.

I know it cannot be done because of scheduling etc, but I'd rather be with the C-7 for the other sports and independent for football. I follow a lot of the "minor" sports and will miss some of the teams in old BE. I understand we have to stay with 1-A football but I think the fact the C-7 is gettting more money without football shows how much brand matters. One more thing, don't hate or like Villano(fun) but pretty amazing how they (currently) make out better than us staying 1-AA over stepping up. To think we all thought they would be left in the dust by not moving up. I know the independent route is not a real option, but just reiterating names matter and the brand we are now with is a second class brand. (Flipping through stations I pause a lot shorter at Tulane vs Houston football than even current ACC football (that i hate) and how many of you have actually stopped to watch a Conference USA basketball game in last 5 years?

He updated just now: C7 will get about 10-15 million of 100 million in accrued fees. Each newcomer will get about a million to not leave, I guess. BE admin will take 5 million for incompetence fee/administrative costs. UConn, USF and Cincy to split remaining 70 million. C7 gets name, arguing remains over future split of ncaa credits.

So if Uconn is getting that much money then it is in line with what we figured. We have about 3 years to get out of this grease fire before we really start feeling the pinch fiscally. So we should be OK in seasons 2013-14, 14-15 and 15-16 with the budget. After that it would probably drop off a cliff and take us with it.

We have 3 ears to get out because of damage done to the brand, 5 years before they start bleeding money.

Remember, the ACC schools are still at $13m a year in TV contracts. AND, the ex-BEs had to pay to enter.

$23.5m for UConn in addition to $2m in TV contract money and, also, the BCS football money for next year (about $2m per school), means that UConn will average $9.75m over the next four years, which is much higher than it's been making.

Also don't forget the $25m in licensing fees pe year.

I also wonder if the $100m in $$$ includes the exit fees from Notre Dame, Rutgers, and Louisville. I don't think it would since ND hasn't even negotiated such fees, and Rutgers is suin the BE, nor has Louisville negotiated its exit.
