Who cares? We aren't in it. And it will probably change again.
We aren't in it in 2013. The discussion is regarding 2014, for which we should be eligible.

It's ridiculous in that you are now extending the tournament another day, so it is basically an entire week long. Contrast that with the old days, where you could take one day off of work, on Friday, and attend the entire tournament, now you really need to take a week off.

It also sucks, if you are a fan of a team that is off on Wed, and you are in from out of town, and you don't even get to see you're team play that day.

Besides that, though, I think it is an improvement to to have the upper seeds play in the round of sixteen, and do away with the single and double byes. I look at the first games as more of a play in, than byes for the other teams.

Now, only four teams would have to play five days to win, with the rest four. That's better than eight teams needing five, four teams needing four, and four teams only needing three.

The sixteen teams lent itself perfectly to a four round tourney, before, but they got caught up in the buys.

as Waquoit said, the "plan" may be for the new format to be set going forward for several years, but i suspect a new round of changes and poaching by other leagues will cause the Big East to morph some more. Let's hope UCONN can sit back and enjoy the BET from another league 2 years down the road...

Well, I agree with the idea of everyone playing in the round of 16. I never liked the bye idea. As for the bottom 4 playing on Monday, I guess it is ok, but if the concept was that everyone "should experierience the Big East tournament" which seems to be the argument for all 18 to qualify, I have to ask how that experience will be enhanced if the first round games are played in the RAC down in Nutley or whereever the heck Rutgers is or at Carnesecca arena in Queens instead of Madison Square Garden...

They can play in PS 186 for the amount of people that will be there.

That's easy for you to say from San Diego. For some of us, not going to the Garden will be a bitter pill to swallow.

Even though they are just play in games, the thought of the Big East Tournament in Carnesecca arena is brutal.

That is my point...why even bother bringing teams to New York at all if you're going to play in a play in game in Queens or even, shudder, New Jersey...two teams miss the tourney each year, here's a suggestion...get better next year and you'll get to play in it.

Being relegated to a second tier conference will be even worse, believe me...
