Just to put in perspective how clueless or short-sighted your post is, when was Division I formed and what division were we part of before we joined the FBS level? And ever hear of Larry McHugh?Blaming high school coaches for a lack luster Div-1 COLLEGE football program is silly at best. Last time I knew they don't have a vote in who UConn hires. They endorsed Coach P like a lot of people did. He didn't work out so now it's time to move on. It's not their fault that this conference re-alignment monster comes at the worst possible time for a newbie on the D-1 scene. It happened, so be it. But be warned, UConn isn't nestled in the middle of a recruiting hotbed and legitimate D-1 prospects coming out of New England are far and few between. UConn needs as many allies as it can muster, especially the people who, besides their parents, have the most influence in where a kid plays his college ball. Don't bite the hand that feeds you, don't bite any of them. The next Donald Brown might be right under your nose, just a season or two away. Keep in mind this is still a new D-1 program with almost a century of tradition to catch up on so there are going to be bumps in the road. It happens to everyone, even the Alabama's and USC's of the world. You move forward a lot faster when your not looking backwards so give this blame game a rest. Your a few decades too late.
Jeff Hathaway hired him because they wanted him as the coach. Yes, very little vision on Jeff Hathaway's part. As well as those who endorsed him.The article is idiotic. The CT high school coaches endorsed the hire of PP but did not bring it about. PP's hire also got resounding endorsements from coaches in NY and NJ as well. And this board - or its former location but many of the same players constantly complained about not having enough CT kids on the roster and Edsall letting all the in-state talent getting away and I used to try and make the point that just because you get more CT kids on the roster, while it may drum up more interest in the program it doesn't necessarily make it a better program. Win games and the fan base will not care where the talent comes from - same thing when you lose games. If you want to be upset with the PP hire, that's fine and it's fully justified but taking shots at the in-state coaches as part of the tirade shows very little vision.
