I was told about two weeks ago that we may get heavily involved with him. Looks like that may happen with us now offering.

I'm trying to see if I can set up an interview with him at some point right now.
 
“He’s a great coach. He’s a guard coach,” said Eric Davis of Saginaw (MI). “Shabazz Napier and Ryan Boatright did really well this season. [Kevin Ollie] he’s a winner. He knows how to win. He develops his guards and so that’s what I’m looking for.

Davis mentioned that UConn has recently entered the picture in his recruitment and they will definitely be looked at closely.

MSU has that region on lock down. Tough to take him from Izzo.
 
Who have we not offered in the class of 2015? I can not remember ever being in the mix for so many players. It will be very interesting how this works out.

To be fair, Ollie also has a much wider net to cast. You think about Calhoun coming up and he was the epitome of New England basketball. He built his entire career out of the area. Ollie on the other hand is coming off a path like we've never seen before; he has ties everywhere. Friends in high places everywhere. No enemies. Everybody loves the guy. Now, while I loved Jim Calhoun he wasn't the easiest sell on the masses. Ollie is the new era of college basketball come to New England. And Jim's last great recruit if you ask me.

At first I read your comment as "Who have we offered" and I was going to answer "Everyone". But you are right - I can't even keep track of all the offers we have out there. I hope UCONN gets the kids they really really want, instead of their 2nd or 3rd choices, but it's better to cast a wider net IMHO... because our 2nd or 3rd choices often end up being better for us in the long run anyway...

Not sure what you're saying……….remember the Knight, Fair, Rudy J, Kevin, Donny year? Check out where they were from and tell me about wider nets?

My point was more as in how they started their careers. I mean you can use KO himself as an example of Calhoun branching out. Or his German move towards the end. As he grew as coach he created his own recruiting prowess. I was trying to comment on how Ollie stepped onto the scene with ties everywhere. I think it's what has made him basically the perfect recruiter. I think sticking to the net analogy may have hurt me.

Agreed. Ollie also has broader appeal, his public persona is that of a nice guy, someone you'd want to play for. Calhoun was like choosing to go to boot camp, you played for him because you knew he would make you better and mentally stronger, but that style doesn't appeal to as many players, especially the ones who think they're already great.

Holy sh_t, we have 31 outstanding scholarship offers for 2 open spots. Cant say I'm a huge fan of the new recruiting tactic at this point, although we're obviously seeing some success and turnover atm. And who is Keondre Dew?

A 3-star recruit from San Diego. Earth-bound power forward who can handle the ball, pass, and rebound in his area. Not a big scorer or rim protector. From what I've read and the one highlight tape I saw, I'd call him a poor man's Draymond Green.

Re: 31 schollies, I wonder how many of them are still on the table. Jared Wilson-Frame, for example - a good player, but not considered elite - would be foolish not to snap one up if it's out there. (and FWIW, I wouldn't be the least disappointed if he did. I like having at least one long-range gunner to bring off the bench)

Yeah, it is an abnormally large number, I'm always surprised. I think it's part the culture of college basketball and part us just winning a NC/having an exciting coach that is generating alot of interest nationwide. This is kind of the way Bill Self has always recruited and maybe it's a sign of the KO will be. Just the theory of "If you're talented we want you and we will win."

As for Keondre Dew, I know very little beyond his name. He's from California but I believe he has been playing in Florida for a few years. He's 6'7 and I can only assume we are interested because of our lack of depth at wing. This is the best article I found on him:

Thanks for all the info. Dew doesn't sound too bad, but I guessing theres a reason he hasn't landed somewhere yet, injury, ineligibility, personal issues or some combo. of all three. Certainly doesn't appear a must have.
 
Yeah, I am trying to see what I can find on him but it's not much. May start a new thread for him.

For each of those 31 offers there are probably at least 10 schools recruiting each of them so if we want to get some top players KO has to cast a wide net.

It just seems like an excessive workload trying to recruit 30 - 40 sought after kids with a degree of quality and finesse, but who am I to say.
 
KO is not actively recruiting over 30 players, that website is a waste of time

As aceboon said we aren't actively recruiting every single one of those guys. It's just a list of recruits we have been reported to have offered.

Yeah, I really didn't think he would. How do the staff handle scholarship offer withdrawals? Are the offers contingent on a time periods or just first come first serve until filled? Can they be withdrawn after a LOI? Given the system, it doesn't appear that young players have much incentive to actually sign until the end.
