New #1?

UConn will keep the #1 spot but Texas will garner a good share of votes and deservedly so. They had a great run at Players Era.

I expect controversy either way. If UConn retains the #1 ranking, there will be chatter. If Texas leapfrogs UConn, I expect the same. The voters won't consider this but just this year UConn trounced South Carolina and UCLA in a similar sequence towards the National Championship so its all par for the course. So until UConn is knocked off, they deserve the penthouse suite.
I do agree with the first statement. I don't think it'll be controversial though, most fans understand the nuance of it. I think if anything there'd be more uproar if Texas got the #1 ranking and jumped ahead of UCONN. Texas has the best wins so far, but UCONN also has really solid wins too and hasn't given any reason to believe that they're not on par with Texas or anyone in the country.

Disagree with the last statement--what teams did 7 months ago with different rosters is irrelevant and shouldn't be considered.

I was right there with you until this last bit. It would make more sense to me, at least, to say “until they’re knocked off, they’ll keep the penthouse suite.” Just because deserving doesn’t feel like the right register for something as erratic as rankings.
I can accept that clarification, valid point

Valid point, I think the sequence was my focus that got lost here. Beating UCLA, then South Carolina successively.

I do respectfully disagree on the controversy piece, If UConn is still #1 or Texas is, there will be so much chatter. There already is on X about how Texas should, UConn should and the rankings aren't even out yet.

I thought South Carolina was over ranked coming into the season anyway. So no Texas should not take the number 1 spot.

Good point about X--I'm not on there so I haven't seen the differing opinions, but I'll take your word for it.

I thought that SC was over ranked last season, even in March. But Dawn took a weakened lineup and got the very best out of them. I was impressed.

On paper at least, SC looks stronger than last season even with the loss of Chloe and Ashlyn, not to mention Milaysia. I have a feeling this lineup may end up underperforming since too much may end up riding on a couple of promising freshmen and a couple veteran bigs who’ve never quite lived up to their billing. And yet, Dawn may well impress me again with what she can get this latest group to accomplish.

My experience teaches me never to count Dawn out, and to be underwhelmed by what Cori manages to get from her roster.

Obviously, LSU should be #1. After all, they now hold the record of 8 triple digit scoring games in a row. That should count for something.
