Mods, please give me a little latitude here.

I have a premium membership to Scout. I never ended it when the Boneyard moved. It gives me access to all Scout sites, including the TN site.

I read the game article written by Maria. After the Stanford game, I cut and pasted some of that here. I was told that this was copyrighted material and it was deleted.

So, knowing that, I did not bring any written word here from that site. I noticed the link to the presser and watched. It brought me to a Youtube address. I added the link to my post and previewed it. There was no security on that site or address, so I posted the link. It was CLEARLY in a public domain.

I was out this evening and when I came home I had an email from Maria asking me to take it down. I said I would but she had already password protected the video.

I then noticed a long thread on the Summitt accusing me of various horrible acts.

As someone else said, they needed something to distract them from the horrible game last night.

Thanks for listening. No replies needed.

The youTube TOS states the following -

You also hereby grant each user of the Service a non-exclusive license to access your Content through the Service, and to use, reproduce, distribute, display and perform such Content as permitted through the functionality of the Service and under these Terms of Service. ~~ [youTube TOS part 6C]

This clearly states that the owner of the video grants you a limited license to embed the video simply by leaving the embed option on (which is part of the functionality of the youTube Service).

Here is what I don't understand, and I said as much over there as well. Wasn't this a press conference video? Why all the secrecy? Isn't a press conference inteded to be seen and quoted? It's not like this was some secret practice video that was shot without consent.

If someone neglects password protection on YT, it is too late to establish privacy. The horse is out of the barn. Does anyone debate this? If so, I am willing to read and consider.

Plus, like Ice said, critique is fair use. I mean....are they serious with the whole "contact the FBI" thing?? As if they (the FBI) have nothing better to do? That is just embarassing. And great "exclusive" content. A press conference? Wow.

Indeed. It may not have been intended for non-subscribers, but to your point, it's probably content that's available elsewhere. And of course, yes, if it was posted to a publicly viewable URL, that's a pretty amateur approach.

Well, If you contributed to Ms Cornelius' travel fund you would not be having this problem.

Just an update. There is a post by Aurabass, a long time TN poster on The Summit quoting from Maria's article on the premium site, cutting and pasting from Maria's article on the free message board.

I'm sure Maria will be editting his post, or asking him to remove the copyrighted material.

A few comments,
1. I think the mentioned moderator know's that her writing career is coming to an end along with the the future of the teams program as a premier team.
2. The fans are hurting and understandingly so.
3. In the not so distant future there may no longer be a base to support the interest of the other board which will impact the moderators income.
4. Ironically I received my "I Back Pat" tee-shirt yesterday and lost my mother-in-law early this morning after a long fight with alhzmeirs.

Paul, my thoughts are with you and your family. Having battled this illness in my wife's family I completely empathize with your battle.

Thanks Nan, it's actually my partner for 36 years Eddy's mom. Her passing, as it often does, puts what is or is not important into perspective.
Sorry for the wrong assumption. Please convey my condolences to your partner Eddy and your extended family.

Must say I missed this extravaganza entirely. Saw the thread, didn't bother clicking on the link. Then missed all the action until this morning.

After seeing a little of the movie to which I arrived late, I think I'll refrain from asking for a plot synopsis from the person sitting next to me and go home to see what's on the tube. Or is it YouTube?

If Elliott Ness comes knocking, or door-bashing, I'll give him Doggydaddy's address.

I've removed copyrighted material from this board before, and not long ago, after digging to find out its source.

But let me get this straight. In this case the copyrighted material is the (then) non-protected URL of a publicly available YouTube?

Please. If anyone including Ms. C. wants to PM me or any of the other mods about any material, anytime, we'll welcome it. On the other hand, if public frenzy is more to one's liking, it'll have to stay elsewhere.

We don't need to feed it, and that's why I'm locking this thread.

p.s. Sorry to step on a poignant exchange at thread's end and will add my condolences to Paul.

It's like transference; they don't want to be really angry with their team so they're angry with you. But as for the copyright thing, the link to was to YouTube, for heaven's sake. As Oz noted, there was no password or subscription required to view it as Boneyarders were easily able to access the video so it was part of the public domain. And it was a presser. ND posted a link to Muffet's presser. I think it would be hard to argue that anyone from the Summitt owns exclusive rights to the presser.
