Jeezus. ND Media Relations guy Chris Masters must have a supercomputer programmed to scrape every conceivable obscure "How Great We Are" statistic from the sides of the barrel.

"Between January 31, 2011 and November 30, 2011 Notre Dame won more games at Purcell Pavilion than any other team won on its home court during the same period of months in a year after 2005 but before 2007."

And on and on. . . . And on.

(That's not a real quote, but if you waded through any part of this interminable piece, you may find it plausible.)

Hypocrisy disclaimer. I haven't dug out and compared the UConn Media Relations Guide, but far as I know it's only issued for Media Day and not in honor of particular regular season games. Furthermore, the statistical case for the UConn program's greatness can be made much more simply.

I'm particularly impressed with the Big Mac section, including this great stat:

"And for those tracking such things (or perhaps falling under the heading of "the media relations director has way too much time on his hands"), 27 different players have converted the "burger ball", including nine current members of the Fighting Irish roster."

JS, it's an incomplete document. Tracing the greenish tinge to the Wicked Witch of the West's skin back to Notre Dame DNA was not included.:)

I enjoyed the first section the most - tons of stats about historical coaches poll and AP rankings. Riddled with phrases like "second", "tied for second", "second for all NCAA schools during this period". They must hate that word!

Notre Dame practice photo...
There is no way we can't beat these guys... ;)
Go Huskies...!!

It's incomplete in lots of respects. As a How Great We Are document, it's forced to leave out much unflattering information, including, without limitation, creepy skin tones of alumnae connoting what is probably actual underlying wickedness.

Actually this picture of the Nuns practicing illustrates a key point about ND basketball.

Question: What is the result of the scene below?

Answer: Well actually that was a trick question as there are two answers.

1) If the Nun with the ball is a ND player, then the result is that 5 shooting fouls are called and she gets 10 free throws.
2) If the Nuns on the ground are ND players then 5 charges are called and the Nun with the ball fouls out.

"Oh, Notre Dame, when I in awesome wonder
Consider all the wins our teams have made
I see our stars, I hear the rolling thunder
Our power through the USA displayed

Then sings my soul, my Notre Dame to thee
How great we Are, How great we Are
Then sings my soul, my Notre Dame to thee
How great we Are, How great we Are

When to the fields, and packed arenas I wander
and hear the fans cheer loudly in their seats
When I look down, with attitude condescending
and see the refs blow whistles for fouls unseen

Then sings my soul, my Notre Dame to thee
How great we Are, How great we are
Then sings my soul, my Notre Dame to thee
How great we Are, How great we are"!

Superb. I heard the melody in my head the second I started reading.

Permit me to straighten out the cadence of the third quatrain (second verse):

When to the courts, arenas packed I wander
and hear the fans cheer loudly for the green
When I look down, with lofty pride and grandeur
and see the refs call fouls on flops, I preen

Yours is better than the one I drafted. Glad I didn't post it

Weird, one of my dad's favorite hymms (George Beverly Shea version). The original version, not this ND version. He hated ND more than I do. ;)
