Neither had any interest in UConn before...

Ferguson had offers from: ND, Bama, UF, FIU FSU, and UCF.

Neal had offers from: ND, Zona, Zona State, Arkansas, Auburn, LSU, the U, UNC, Northwestern, tOSU, Oregon State, PSU, TAMU, UCLA, USC, Utah and Washington and took visits to ND, Arkansas, UNC and tOSU.

Agreed - "Neal is a recent new father and was hoping to have his long-time girlfriend move to South Bend but he decided it would be better if he transferred and went to school closer to his family. It is believed he will look at several Pac-12 schools after sitting out the 2013 season---but as always don't count out a hardship waiver being granted by the ever-surprising NCAA."

Saw this in another article - interesting:

"In addition to Ferguson, Neal and Kiel, a fourth member of the Irish’s 2012 class rated No. 20 in the nation had previously left the program. Cornerback Tee Shepard signed with Notre Dame in January of last year as an early enrollee but left two months later. Shepard, Ferguson and Kiel were the three highest-rated players signed by the Irish in that recruiting class."
