I was not expecting this outcome. It is a tough loss. But the good part, we got plenty of games left in the season to figure things out and get better. Keep your heads up, UConn. We are good. Learn from this game and keep getting better.

Our center/forward X Strong only gathered 5 rebounds and posted 8 points? ND commanded the boards especially in the first half. We were slow to the ball and didn't play with much fire it seemed.

We did make a couple of good runs with drives to the hoop. Our 3 pt shooting continues to be a problem. It's often rushed as our high picks are too soft and not close enough to be effective. ND used there picks and reverse picks much more effectively throughout this contest. Seems like our offense is too centered on Paige which take us too long to get into our offense. Just look at the low number of assists in this game by the Huskies.
agree that the picks are kind of pro forma & not as sharp as what we’ve seen by some other highly ranked teams this year.

Next game please let the post touch the ball in the post more not just at the foul line. They don't have to shoot it, but let them touch it.

UConn tried face guarding Hidalgo last year and she went for 30+ and fouled out the BE DPOY in only 19 minutes. I'm not sure what game you were watching, but throughout the 2nd half, UConn was running Paige through a low screen in the blocks, followed by a high screen and handoff to get her the ball. You really don't have an idea what in the H you're talking about.
I do, sorry you feel that way. No double screens period. I’m talking this year. I don’t live in the past.

Of course, I'm disappointed that UConn lost, but the better team won tonight. ND was more aggressive, they played tight D, owned the boards, and executed a better game plan. It's easy to complain after a loss, and look for people to blame. HH and King hurt UConn repeatedly, and on the offensive end, UConn lacked cohesion.

I will say that I am disappointed in how Geno coached tonight. He knew coming into the game, ND was going to do everything to disrupt Paige from getting in a flow. Why doesn't he make it easier for her to get the ball where she's in position to be able to execute. Most of her points were a result of her driving to the basket, trying to create her shot. She had few clear looks.

For a top 5 player, Paige certainly gets little love from the refs. On at least 3-4 occasions when attacking the basket, there was much more than incidental contact.

Fortunately, this loss comes early and there's a chance for redemption with USC.
I despise the phrase “incidental contact” in the game of basketball. It’s overrated. The refs or whomever need to get rid it because No One intends to foul most of the time. So why call fouls unless they are intentional? A foul is a foul. Just keep it simple refs. :D

If memory serves….when Stewart was a freshman the Huskies lost 3 games against ND in a season that ended with an ncaa title. Apples to oranges comparison I suppose but still …..
Glass half full… very hostile environment, no Azzi, no Aubrey. Put this team at a neutral site with either of those two and I think it’s a W. for March!

ND was home and simply shot better. The first true road game for a few rotation players, including Chen

They played better, we'll grow. That's why you play these games

On to ISU

Why did our coaches have the team run down the clock in much of the 4th qtr. We seemed to lack the passion to score, just dribble.
Absolutely didn't understand that

A big point was Strong getting in foul trouble and ND built their lead. Of course no Azzi either. Strong no in foul trouble things may have been different. Geno needs more athletic scorers. Just think if no injuries Paige Azzi Sarah Caroline and Ice/Jana That lineup cant be beat. Just a thought.
Tony I agree that we need to get some more athletes. Aubrey will help here and so will Azzi if she can fully recover from her injury. We need players that can stick with the quicker players that other teams will throw at us. Our team is really not very athletic! I love them all but they are kinda slow-footed!

Dee Kantner was pretty much invisible tonite. :)

I agree with everyone that stated that a paint presence by a big is necessary. I don't remember a feed inside that resulted in a basket. ND freshman played like an upper classman.

1. Can we admit that putting Paige on the ball would just be easier. We spent so much energy attempting to get her the ball without even shifting the defense. Just let her bring the ball up, we either scored or got looks most times she touched it. Putting her off ball also renders her passing ineffective. Notice ND puts the ball in the hands of their best player. We don’t, for some bizarre reason.
2. I’m just a little frustrated with Shade. She continues to have an inability to score against strong competition. I thought that hurt us immensely tonight.
3. The makeup of this team is spotty when you realize KK, Chen, and Shade aren’t great shooters against good defenses. Azzi staying healthy is paramount.
4. I would’ve liked to see Sarah and Paige play a two man game. They had success in that but we didn’t go to consistently.
5. We don’t generate free throw attempts. Sometimes I think we value winning pretty too much. Initiate contact and force the whistle. I know the officiating wasn’t stellar but still.
6. Ice has virtually zero post up game. Jana needs more minutes but needs to learn better defensive positioning.
7. Our defense lacked heart. We helped way too much on the strong side and paid dearly.
8. Happy KK showed some signs of offensive life. That was huge.

A disappointing loss, but not the end of the world. If I have one take away, I’m praying to see the coaches shake up the makeup of this team. I don’t feel we put our best lineups out there, and I don’t think we put players in spots to succeed.
