I would be surprised if ND makes it to the sweet 16 now

You knew that she wasn't going to play after Ivey stated that they weren't going to comment on her injury. They wanted the highest seed they could get and host the the first and second round. They will most likely get past Southern Utah, but will most likely lose to the Creighton/Miss St winner.

Per the article Dillon77 posted in the ND thread on the general board, it sounds like they investigated all possible options, even as late as this past weekend.

Also, per the quote below, there's hope she'll be back during the summer. I get that there's skepticism that ND is trying to game the system for seeding, however wouldn't it be in their best interest to investigate all possible options before saying for sure?

"The current timetable for her return is that we hope that she will be back for the summer in order to participate for the workouts," Ivey said

I think of Haiby of Nebraska where it was announced she was done for the year, only to discover the injury wasn't as serious and she was able to play this season.

I would say close to 2/3 of the state of Indiana wouldn't put it past them. I was born and raised in Indiana for the first 21+ and almost every college town in the state despised South Bend and Notre Dame.

I had Creighton over N.D. as one of my upsets, now, if it happens, I will not consider it an upset = Pick'em."
I still have FSU over Georgia in the first round... but, the former Head Coach at UCF, now at Georgia, gave
UCONN headaches last year, and IMO will do the same to FSU. Iowa wins over that winner, they are
playing in IOWA CITY, you know, with some 15,000 fans expected!!

It's odd that Coach says the exact nature of the injury is "undisclosed for her privacy" when it was already out there in sports online media... perhaps the media is speculating???
And, I would not be surprised by some Teams holding this kind of information from the public and Committee in order to get a better seed.... but now of course the lower seeds who will play them know they are missing their most important player and will increase their confidence for an upset.

Do I think ND was honest with the selection committee-No, they simply claimed the 5th. Do I think they delayed Miles surgery-No, they absolutely would not harm an athlete for the sake of seeding. I honestly do believe they tried all sorts of options only they confirmed that delaying the surgery would not harm Miles (as opposed to immediate surgery when other options weren't available).

I am not a Miles fan but the young lady is a heck of basketball player and earned her 2nd team All-American honors and I wish her a speedy and healthy recovery. I want to beat her and ND next year with a full UConn squad as payback for this year's loss.

Baylor did the exact same thing with respect to Blackwell during the season. To this day, I don't believe her injury was fully disclosed. FSU and NC State didn't say much about Latson and Johnson either, so why is the focus solely on ND?

Sports teams of all stripes will keep injuries close to the vest. Hockey is notorious for using "undisclosed - choose section of body - injury" when reporting. NFL teams will deny media reports all the time even though one can see a player isn't right, like Matt Stafford of LA this year.

It's not that I'm a ND homer, but I find that we're painting ND with a brush that isn't being applied to all when they've done the same. I get that ND can be seen as a villain on this board, but they not doing anything different than what other teams would in the same situation.

While I'm NOT a fan of Notre Dame by any stretch of the imagination, I have nothing against its athletes. I was and still am a fan of Brianna Turner (2019). I like Miles too. She's a baller and I like her moxie. It's too bad she won't be able to participate in this year's tournament. :( I don't think they will go very far into the tournament without her.

You can see how losing just one player can impact a team. I don't believe there is anyone on their bench that can replace Miles' production and/or floor leadership. That's why it was so amazing that UConn had as many players go down for various lengths of time as they did, and still kept the boat afloat, and won 29 of their 34 games.

Serge, you know I had to chime in on this. My response to the bolded portion...........gee, I wonder why? Having lived there for that long, you're giving us that information "firsthand." :)

Do we think it was an ACL or MCL injury?
Watching the tape my guess would be ACL. That was my thought when I saw it happen and after watching the replays I was even more convinced. Hopefully I am not accurate and she will be as good as new when next season kicks off in November.

Although there is no love in my heart for ND, I feel bad for Miles and I hope she is able to recover quickly and be back next season. I think the hardest part about getting injured is being able to get over the fear of new or re-injury. I tore my ACL in high school and in my mind I was never quite the same athlete because it was always this looming subconscious worry. I can’t imagine what it is like for athletes playing at the top college level.

At no time would I wish any harm or be happy about a student athlete having an injury, even one from a university that I despise. I was talking about Ivey basically saying that they will not state if she will be able to play, knowing that she was most likely out for the season. It's just as bad as what Tara did years ago, so that Stanford got a #1 seed. Hopefully Utah State will have the same outcome as Harvard did in the 1998 tournament against Stanford.
