NCAA Tourney games

Blakes has gone 1-13 from the field in the first half against ND, but has shot 8 free throws in the first half. For UConn, in 2 full games, free throw attempts for Sarah Strong 9, Blanca 7 and Azzi 0. Wait, what???

I can't believe she'll shoot that poorly in another half.

That’s the type of half Azzi can’t afford. UConn will be in trouble if she has one of those.

It’s coming down to the wire for Vandy. Tied with 25 secs to go in the fourth and ND ball

Insane game by Hidalgo. Pretty incredible redemption arc for her after all the turmoil from the offseason and coming back with a weak roster. No shade but Notre Dame is not a very talented team and she single-handedly won them this game. She’s now torched two of the best guards in the country this tournament and soundly outplayed Blakes today who had one of the worst games of her career. Gotta feel for Mikayla after mishandling the ball on Notre Dame’s 2nd to last possession down 2.

Incredible season for Shea and Vandy. Congrats to Niele and Notre Dame as they advance one round further.

Blakes 7-26. Not only is she no Sarah Strong, she's not even a Hannah Hidalgo. Anyone (Peck?) who thinks Blakes should be NPOY needs to think again... LOL

Great game to start Friday's tournament games off. ND and Hannah player their butts off! Congrats to Vandy and Coach Ralph on making it this far in the tournament but this victory is all Coach Ivey and to her Notre Dame program.

Have to imagine there are few plays in her career she wants back more than that one. Lost the ball around an immobile defender with space near the basket. I was pulling for ND but felt for her too. Very special year for her and Vandy.

Hard to imagine how anyone who coaches or writes about women's college basketball for a living didn't have Hannah on their First-Team All-American ballot. The advanced stats suggest she's the best two-way guard in the country, and the eye test backs that up just about every time I see her play.

I think it had to do more with ND’s record at the time. It didn’t make sense to me either though. Fudd’s had a great season, her being a first-team AA and certainly a top four Naismith finalist has been puzzling

UCONN is lucky the refs swallowed the whistle on them. They were playing some 90's-style NBA defense for much of that 1st half with 0 fouls being called.

UConn is very beatable today, but they’re playing North Carolina. This is why the 4 seed matters much more than the 2.

Geno’s teams typically get calls and no calls that would be make Coach K blush.

So Notre Dame got further in the Tourney this year than either of the previous 2 seasons, when they were absolutely stacked and had much better regular seasons, right? The Tourney is a strange entity I tell ya.

You know Hidalgo had absolutely TERRIBLE games the previous 2 Tourneys when Notre Dame was eliminated, right? Maybe basing an entire opinion of a player on 1 game isn't really a very accurate measure?

To those griping about pro-UCONN whistle swallowing, I profoundly disagree. Yes, the refs called very few fouls in the 1st half, but, IMO, they called it the same for both UCONN and a very good, physical and defensively active UNC squad.

This is literally the LAST thing she should be saying or thinking, too many WBB coaches bend the knee to these blueblood/premier programs

I'm not getting that impression when I listen to the clip. She's provided a fair assessment of the challenge. I thought she did a tactful job of acknowledging both the experience this team brings, along with a deep roster that's not easy to gameplan against.

Looks like UCLA is having a similar experience with Minnesota as what UConn had with UNC. Definitely winning, but having trouble pulling away into blowout territory.
