From yesterday's JI: a pilot program

Teams that make the final 4 [men and women] will get 3 grand per player to allow up to 2 family members
to go to the site....a 'family stipend'. In addition one grand per player will be added for teams that advance.
Does that mean the teams that 'advance' to the championship game?

Rules gurus out there: Natalie Butler is an ineligible player but is on scholarship and on the team.
Does she get the same stipend? She would normally have to pay her own way to the final 4....now maybe she can use the stipend to pay for herself and one parent???

BTW: It would be a fair distance to Tampa but if we make it there, I hope Napheesa, DeJanae and LouConn
somehow show up. It would be great for them to soak in that atmosphere...they would be ready to hit 2016
final 4 site [Indianapolis] running.

Unfortunately, Natalie didn't even get a watch when they won the ACC while, the team, coaches, managers, Graduate assistants, etc all got one, so I think it is the same with the NCAA...

I also wonder if our 2 walk-ons would get the same stipend?

They should as they are part of the team and they can play in any game. As far as the NCAA is concerned, they are no different than the recruited players.

Gg has it, regarding NCAA attitudes to players, based on some experiences we had at Rutgers.

In fact, ineligible players can't attend away games, technically including injured players unless they changed the rules - although I'm not sure about the injured in the NCAA's. The way around it (and RU used this one year) is to list the player as "available to play day-to-day".

Natalie is ineligible to play this year but as far as I know she can attend away games...she just has to pay her way to and fro and not travel with the team.
She was in South Bend for our game with ND for one.

Maybe I am missing something? Women's basketball is a bigtime loser of money in the NCAA...as are virtually
all women's [and men's] sports. Football and men's basketball make money which [among other things] fund other sports....men's
and women's.

If I were a player's parent, my first reaction to this would be 'Thank You!".

I remember when fans wanted to raise money so Svetlana Abrosimova's parents could come to CT to see their daughter play, but NCAA rules prohibited doing that so they weren't able to come. I never understood the NCAA's thinking.
IIRC her mother was finally able to come for Svet's Senior Night but not her dad.

Well your memory is close but not completely accurate. Dad was there....
