This shows the nice boost to the big10 that will one from adding md and ru. Not a single big10 team was in the top 14 the last 5 yrs.

Over a period of 20 years, from '94 - '13, our worst 5 year stretch was still the third best overall. A few may recall the temperament of the board at the time. After the success we will likely experience over the next five years I wonder what the temperament will be if we go through another "down" stretch like that again. If I was triduke I'd include a gif from Apocalypse Now: "The horror."

I can't help wondering, will CVS re-christen her team "The jewel of the Midwest" or something else?

With the talent Duke has had over the last 10 years its amazing that they've only gone to 1 Final Four. They're consistent getting to the Sweet 16 but just can't pull off the upset to get to the Final Four. I haven't gone back to look at the games, but I suspect in most years they lost to a #1 seeded team. Perhaps Triaddukefan knows how often in the last 10 years Duke was seeded #1.

Duke has been a #2 seed the last 4 years, and lost in the elite 8 each time.
They previous yr, they were a #1 seed ... and that was the one year they didnt make the sweet 16!

In the prior 5 yr span, they were a #1 on 3 occasions -- losing in the final, the E8, and the S16.

Seeded #1 in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, and 2009... those are off the top of my head.

Should have been seeded #1 in 2011

Yes... its amazing that Duke has only gone to 1 final 4 in the past 10 years..... amazing... frustrating, disappointing, disheartening, heartbreaking, annoying..... just for starters

'Specially considering that UNCheat has been to the Final Four twice in that 10-year stretch, huh?

Another notable item ...

How unspectacular Texas am has been other than their NC. In the other 9 years, just 10-7 and 3 sweet 16.
Similar for Louisville, outside of its two runs -- 6-6 with 2 sweet 16 and 2 misses.

Though perhaps it is just a reflection of how dominant UConn, and to some extent tenn Baylor Stanford duke, have been.

Looking at this data reminds me of how unremarkable Notre Dame was for several years after its 2001 championship. Muffet wasn't able to capitalize on that championship in to a solid run of NCAA results. ND's record and NCAA results since 2001:

2000-01 34-2 NCAA Champs
2001-02 20-10 NCAA 2nd Rd
2002-03 21-11 NCAA Sweet 16
2003-04 21-11 NCAA Sweet 16
2004-05 27-6 NCAA 2nd Rd
2005-06 18-12 NCAA 1st Rd
2006-07 20-12 NCAA 2nd Rd
2007-08 25-9 NCAA Sweet 16
2008-09 22-9 NCAA 1st Rd
2009-10 29-6 NCAA Sweet 16
2010-11 31-8 NCAA Runner Up
2011-12 35-4 NCAA Runner Up
2012-13 35-2 NCAA Final Four

This puts UConn's and Tenn's accomplishments in to perspective.

It is the perspective that I admit I sometimes find missing on the BY.

Folks - you live in a special situation. As did Tennessee for many, many years. It has been glimpsed, at times, by other programs, but after a while, they tend to slide back (LSU comes to mind) or they never quite make the last step (Duke). And, while I am with Geno that many programs can (argueably) do better in certain ways, it just isn't easy to become a UConn or Tennessee.

As a result, there are times that some UConn fans simply can't see it from the point of view of other program's fans. They simply are in a different place. Which is perfectly ok.

Exactly and I'm so glad you wrote this. I actually deleted a sentence from my post that said what a different board this would be if UConn's record after its 1995 or 2000 championships had matched Notre Dame's.
