Men's and women's basketball will also move from a 45-day to a 30-day transfer window that open on the day after the end of the second round of their NCAA tournaments. The transfer window in basketball previously opened on the day after Selection Sunday.

Still dumb that it's during the NCAA Tournament. Wait until after the championship game.

Seems like it would just penalize quality teams still participating.
Less than it does currently though, it previously opened when there were 68 teams in the NCAA Tournament, plus all the NIT and CBI and whatever other postseason tournaments.

End of the season is nice in theory, but it's just not realistic to expect 300+ teams to sit on their hands and wait for the last few teams to finish playing. They'll just end up talking behind the scenes anyway

End of the season seems to work fine for the NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL, and… every other league in the world.

Conversely, kids who enter the portal and sign with lower performing teams indicate they are in it more for the money than for the winning. Sure, there are always top level program who have a down year or get upset and are done after the first weekend, but for the most part, kids in the portal who want to play for the best programs and coaches, will wait until all the top teams are available to talk to about transferring.

And all that is for naught if a coach takes an NBA job midway through the summer.

This comparison is so dumb that it's not even worth explaining the difference. Not to mention every single one of those leagues has an in season period where players move teams while games are happening

Didn't realize people transferred in those leagues, learn something new every day.

I guess. But why penalize the 16 teams which are doing what they are supposed to be doing, concentrating on winning the NCAA Tournament? You're giving everyone else an unfair 2 week head start.

Also, think about it from the players' perspective. What if a player on a Sweet 16 team, say a bench player, doesn't want to wait until they're done to enter the portal because he feels like he'll be missing out on talking early to the best teams he would want to transfer to. You want that distraction? And most of the Sweet 16 teams don't even know who they might be losing to replace so they also lose time talking to potential players to transfer in.

I think it makes the most sense to wait until after the national championship game. What's the rush? Nobody starts offseason official workouts until June. That leaves 2 months to enter the portal, make visits and pick a school.

You've followed college basketball for a long time, what do you think are the chances of John Calipari sitting on his hands for 3 weeks after a first round exit and waiting for UConn to win their 3rd straight championship before talking to potential transfers?

Slim and none? Lol. But he also wouldn't know who entered the transfer portal yet. Although he'd be reaching out to potential transfers. But do you think this kind of thing doesn't start until March? There were rumors Pitino was doing this in January.

That's my point, it's always going on. So moving it back to after the championship game is nice lip service but just not going to change much. Even the change that happened now I don't see having much impact. Tampering will always happen

Yeah at least this change will stop anything officially from happening for a bit. And that period may at least be long enough for 30 more coaches to say "hey wait I'm done now, let's talk before you jump into that thing".
