No matter what UConn achieves, it's the same disrespect, the same "yeah buts," the same asterisks. Jay Williams (a Dukie) just told Stephen A. Smith that Dan Hurley should leave UConn for UNC and take over their program as head coach, because UConn just isn't UNC no matter what they've won. You know, Dan should do something that really matters with his life and fix UNC hoops instead of wasting time at second-tier UConn.

The entitlement is so thick you could bounce up and down on it.

While he did mention Hurley, it was a huge compliment to our coach. SAS had the premise that UNC would never go outside for a coach and Williams responded with what about Hurley or Oates.

And then the others said, "But why would Hurley leave UConn? They have an elite program." And Williams said, "It's a good program, but it's not North Carolina. He should take that job." Same attitude the Kentucky folks had two years ago.

I don’t like it, but he’s not wrong. Those programs have a public perception, no matter how many championships we win. We sure have closed the gap the past 20 years. Who knows, maybe we’ll flip the script one day, but I’d much rather be rooting for UConn.

Then lets get #7 and keep chipping away at perception. There's only so much you can say at that point.

ESPN does it. My youngest daughter picked Duke in her bracket. I asked why she picked Duke and she said "Because I feel like they they always win it". She's 19. We've won four titles and been to 5 Final Fours in her lifetime. Two of those titles were in the last 3 years. Duke has 2 titles and has been to 3 Final Fours in her lifetime and they last won a title in 2015 when she 9. The media is the only thing that's ever stopped us from world domination. They make this ridiculous narrative carry on. All it serves to do is help Duke, Carolina and UK recruit better than they should. Its not at all fair.

Follow the money. Those f'ckers at ESPN protecting their own business interests / partners

I'm not sure. And I'm not saying that only because I want it to be true.

No matter who I meet, when I tell them I went to UConn I hear, 90% of the time, "great basketball school!" We definitely have the public perception.

Im a huge college basketball fan and UNC is not a foreground factor for me in terms of the state of college basketball right now. I mention Houston before I mention the Tarheels nowadays.

Also, Jay Williams is speaking from someone who was immersed in that rivalry. His own experience is not the experience of every one else. Legacies can fade if you dont stay relevant and win rings. It happens all the time in sports. But only becomes clear retrospectively. They hire another Hubie and they get further and further from 2017
